Have done the map two times and i get your frustrations, it is an annyoing mechanic.
I usually don't like game systems that take away control but the odd mind control from an enemy is OK. But this is usually about half my entire army, every 2 turns!!!!
Maybe increasing resistances may help? I try to put as many of my army near support characters, so when they go defence mode, it gives them more resistance.
being more serious..
it says "base 30% chance" so yeah, status resistance probably lowers that. Note that the stat is separate from the resistance that support units grant from going in defense mode.
As for mitigating it... well, units driven Berserk will prioritize enemy units at least. Have units that can travel a long distance or other range increases, that will minimize the chance of fighting your own guys. I just kind of went all-in on that map's schtick and went full evil barbarian culture with chaos tomes. lure of the horde is pretty nuts, replaces the units you lose to berserk taking them out of position and then some.
And there are people who claimed reviews are manipulated... figures...
So keep your army balanced and in range of the ai when turn 3 starts.
