Using ChatGPT to generate Race names
I'm not a huge fan of the names generated by the game so I figured I'd see what Chat GPT could do. Here is what it generated with the following prompt entered for each combo:

"In a fantasy game, I can design a race using three traits: Form, Culture and Society. Generate 10 names for the race that uses the following traits"

Form: Elf
Culture: Fuedal
Society: Devotees of Good

Silverthorn Court
Celestial Dominion
Noblewood Order
Radiant Dynasty
Everlight House
Gracewind Council
Luminara Realm
Valorborne Clan
Ebonheart Conclave
Seraphic Court

Form: Orc
Culture: Barbarian
Society: Ruthless Raiders

Bloodfang Horde
Ironskull Marauders
Savageclaw Clan
Skullcrusher Raiders
Thunderstorm Reavers
Bonebreaker Tribe
Viciousbane Warband
Darkmaw Pillagers
Stormbringer Raiders
Deathbringer Horde

Form: Feline
Culture: Dark
Society: Mana Channelers

Shadowclaw Enclave
Nightprowler Coven
Obsidian Mane Syndicate
Voidwhisker Collective
Eclipse Fang Brotherhood
Twilightclaw Society
Shadowstrike Order
Umbrapelt Conclave
Midnight Talon Clan
Mysticwhisker Sect

Form: Rat
Culture: Mystic
Society: Adept Settlers

Shadowwhisker Enclave
Arcane Fur Colony
Whispering Claw Brotherhood
Mystic Paws Collective
Runeborn Ratkin
Sage-tail Society
Enigmawhisper Clan
Astral Whisker Commune
Silentmyst Settlers
Magentle Fur Syndicate

Form: Dwarf
Culture: Industrious
Society: Great Builders

Stonework Guild
Forgeheart Clan
Ironbeard Assembly
Hammerstone Collective
Granitehall Consortium
Steelborne Union
Craftmaster Society
Masonguard Guild
Anvilstone Brotherhood
Constructer's League

lol. Chatgpt is so cool I sometimes forget how civilization ending it potentially is.

I'm a 53 year old SW architect. Learned to code when I was 13 years old, so 40 years now. I lived through the invention of the internet and the advancement of a lot of tech. I've never seen anything like this. It is not really reasoning but given it it is basically using statistics to generate responses, it really is incredible. I'm using it most days in my job and it does save me quite a bit of time. It isn't perfect but it is very, very good. It isn't reasoning yet though, despite the hype. It can't generate novel solutions to problems from first principles. So it isn't AGI. But for language and SW code generation, it is really impressive.

I am even a little older and semi retired software engineer...same.

Usually when I get answers from Chatgpt I force it to put it in the form of a poem or a limerick, just to keep challenging it. Easily passes the now outdated so-called Turing test.

those are infinitely better than the ones generated by the game

Weird how anyone would need an AI to come up with... names?

But yeah the standard names like Crusading Croakers and the Purring Mystics are super immersion breaking.

It's just that none of these AI-generated names are an actual "race" name to describe the culture and form, like the "Mystic Kittens" which is what Triumph was going for with this category.

I was just curious what it would come up with using the context of the three traits. There are some names that I thought were pretty "creative":

Seraphic Court
Luminara Realm

exactly

Takes like a minute to do... But ok eatch to his own i guess. I say imagination is there for a reason. but i guess some people need AI for that lol

It might be an idea to try this with an additional qualifier to avoid noun-noun and noun-verb words. It's a fairly cheap/common tactic when making up fantasy names (and most of the ones presented use it), but they're rarely very interesting. It's telling that the two that you aptly called out as creative both avoided it.

Obviously I can make up my own names - I had to do a ton of that playing/dm'ing D&D in the 80's. I was just curious what ChatGPT would do with it and thought I'd share.

Here are the results of a slightly different prompt to instruct it not to use the actual trait names:
---------
In a fantasy game, I can design a race using three traits: Form, Culture and Society. Generate 10 names for the race that uses the following traits but don't include any of the traits or variations of them in the generated names

Form: Halfling
Culture: Feudal
Society: Swarmers

Certainly! Here are 10 unique names for the race based on the given traits:
Hallowhart Dominion
Shadowvale Hivefolk
Willowbrook Syndicate
Stormhaven Collective
Emberglade Coalition
Silverleaf Monarchy
Sunspire Union
Thistlewood Order
Mistwood Assembly
Moonbrook Alliance

:) There's slight chance we communicated in AOL or usenet at some point.

Did you give it an example first? It's weird how it used the two word format on it's own the same way the game does if not.

I make up my own. The human brain is better.
