Dire penguin

Is there something special about this unit in this game or other aow games ? Or is it just meme?

It was part of the Frostling unit roster in AoW1 so i guess you can say its iconic in a since.

I have discovered that the Penguin thing is like a signature unit in the AOW series. There just HAS to be some kind of stupid enemy Penguin unit to fight in every single game they make. They were in AOW3. They might even have been in Planetfall.

If they make a movie about it, they'll probably be a dumb Dire penguin in that. I gave up saying how silly I thought it was in AOW when I realised they were never gonna give them up.

It's like their mascot and I reckon they see it as funny.

The Dev office probably has a Dire Penguin model sat on one of their desks.

They are definitely in planetfall. They have these weird alien tri-beaks.

Dumb? They are supposed to be viscous, intimidating and ferocious, that's the joke. Admittedly it's an old one but that's what they've gone with.

Yeah they've been in every entry in the series, the giant frogs not so much. But If they are bringing the lizardmen, might as well bring them back too.

In Planetfall there are not only units, but even a poker game with the penguins and one other event where the phrase “all hail the penguin overlords” appears.

Dunno if it works in AOW4, but in AOW SM, I think it was, or maybe AOW3,
I once named a city Penguin City and every dire penguin that appeared headed there.
