I just want multiplayer to work.
Honestly though the base game is $50 the expansion pass is $50, is it unreasonable to want the dlc collectively to add approx twice the content as the base game?
I was kind of hoping for more fiery based tomes to go along with dragons and maybe to spread another terrain type.
I honestly expected more content, but than again, I didn't expect it so soon. At least the game has mods and will grow on two fronts.
This.
Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there because at the moment underground isn't really a playable option, and naval combat is a joke. It's practically a given that the playable versions of those areas will be locked behind DLCs.
So the true price of the game is substantially more than the first-day sticker price. n the other hand, the game was made, for which I am truly grateful. I guess one has to put up with a degree of predation to get nice things these days.
Bundling bits and pieces of the base game as 'DLC', offering a mass of slender content with top-dollar price tags, and preying on people's completionist appetites isn't quite as bad as gacha, but it's not far off.
We need a new word for it - smorgasgacha, perhaps.
They had the opportunity to add a lot of cool things but they didn't take it. Because they were bringing back the lizardmen they could have add some water and/or swamp themed tomes and spells, they could have added frog mounts (the lizardmen's signature cavalry in the original game), and they could have added a greater number of and more interesting body and mind traits but they didn't.
At least the Dragon Lords seemed to turn out great though, and I do like the lizardmen's designs and how varied they are including everything from lizards to snakes to crocodiles to dinosaurs. Big improvement over the draconian redesign in AoW 3. Though I am disappointed that you can't give them (the race, not the ruler) different kinds of horns like you can ruler. It would have been nice to have an entire race that looks like that Wizard King ruler in the screenshots (screenshot 7).
That said, it does need tweaks as discussed elsewhere. Just cool down with the exaggerations.
Yeah not gonna lie that annoys me too. Can't help but feel the eventual item forge or whatever will also be a DLC so you will need it to make vanilla lords viable again against Dragons.
Also annoyed the new tomes have Nature in them. And we already know Primal DLC will be even more Nature. There really isn't much balance here in affinity spread so far.
Ascend dragon rulers to the pantheon.
Set all of them to be available as heroes.
I would like to add this as well. Except necro, all major transformations are in Tier IV tomes. If you're not going for the necro, you're wasting the major transformation you get from the tier IV tome. I haven't tried the DLC either but still thats seem weird.
Another problematic aspect is the lack of unit variety. As you guys know there are Ice, Fire, and Bone dragon in the game and they added Gold (Spirit) and Obsidian (Lightning) dragon.
However, there are two dragon types missing: Nature (Blight) and Materium (Physical). So, there is no Stone dragon or Mechanical Dragon for Materium.
And even if Bone dragon uses blight, still you need to consider the tier cuz its tier IV and its not look like nature dragon at all. So there is no Level V forest dragon or nature dragon to play as. Even though they added these types of dragons as playable leaders, it's odd that they didn't add them as units.
In short, there are some missing elements. Later on, if the dragons won't be added through updates and if the dragons will remain as they are, I believe the diversity is not sufficient. I thought that with the Affinity system, the number of dragons would increase, but they have simply taken the existing dragons from AoW3, tweaked their stats, and changed their types. They haven't added any new types of dragons, despite adding them as leaders. It's just weird...not gonna talk about wyverns its just same. But atleast we got baby slither XD
Extra Dragon or u can call it necro dragon:
Bone Dragon - Tier IV
Chaos - Fire Dragon - Tier V
Shadow - Frost Dragon - Tier V
Order - Golden Dragon - Tier V
Astral - Obsidian?!?! which is weird (in aow3 if i remember correctly it uses blight but now lightning but whatever atleast we got lightning dragon)
Materium - None
Nature - None
Yeah, obsidian dragons and their predecessors the black dragons used to be the evil, dark dragons that were supposed to be the polar opposites of their good, gold dragon counterparts, so the change to lightning is strange. I don't recall lightning ever being particularly associated with evil in Age of Wonders other than the Cult of Storms, but I think that was just a name.
