From what I understand, I believe the games are hosted on their servers so you can play asynchronously. They did it before with Planetfall, but I don't remember ever having issues like we've been having with AoW4. I'm not really sure what changed. If I had to guess, I'd say the servers are overwhelmed since the game ended up being so popular but if that were the case than wouldn't it have been pretty easy to fix? The last update definitely made multiplayer faster and more stable, but manual combat is still extremely prone to desyncs (And 3v3 battles are still super laggy even in single player).
I wish they'd just make player side hosting available as an option again. It'd go a long way to clearing up the complaints over multiplayer. I have like no programming experience though, so who knows how easy it'd be to add it in at this point.
I've explained this before, but out of sync issues have nothing to do with the Servers or Internet Connections. Out of Sync means that the game state is different between players in the session or "Out of Sync" with each other. That happens because actions are being handled differently between clients.
It's why it is not something that has a single fix as it involves how things are executed. To give an simple example, you have a spell that gives a random Debuff to an enemy unit. If the Random isn't of the correct type or not serialized properly etc. then other players observing or in the combat can see a different Debuff being applied than the caster. This would be when the game goes Out of Sync to resolve the difference.
I'm still very disappointed that multiplayer didn't work right out of the gate and that it still has issues, but I'm very happy that you're talking to us and that you are in fact working on it. Thank you.
Well, if it would not be fixed by removing the insanely bad Paradox servers, which I guess is the company that came with this wonderful idea! Since big corpos cannot allow us players to do our own thing, what exactly breaks the game? If player hosting would not work either and the desync is an issue in the engine. Where is the fix to it and why has it been released in this state since it is obviously not working? The suits at Paradox for once maybe should pay their companies properly and not be cheapskates that only seek to sell a million DLCs.
Revert turn is a good option , but sometimes that does not work either.
What options remains then? Are there any tricks one can try?
Or do I have to abandon the game at turn 54?
:(
Well, I think we need to make ourselves more heard. This is not acceptable of a studio owned by Paradox to have these poor servers. The decline in quality I 100% blame on the buyout by Paradox. Utter trash handling by them in this case.
