Why is their always a city within 2 zones of my captial.
I am growing so annoyed at this. Why dose this game insist to spawn a city within 2/3 zones. This has to be scripted. Like the maps are not that large sure. but their is no reason why they have to spawn so close to my first city. Its annoying and i had to restart multiple times because of this. As i like so breathing room to expand.

Can someone just fix this stupid ♥♥♥♥.

Yeah, that one is a scripted obligatory 'first free city' kinda thing. It's supposed to basically be a freebie given how easily you can vassalize or conquer it.

We can destroy ruins now, so it's possible to remove it entirely thank god.

Still, it is annoying, just like the tiny, overloaded, maps as mentioned, my biggest beef with the game really.

there isn't. I have done endless reloads of map starts, and where your free city is is pretty damn random. sometimes halfway across the map, sometimes underground.

next question?

Side note, its a bad sign that the only real way to fix this...is to restart the game multiple times. like i am not asking for a perfect plot of land or anything... just More breathing room then 2 providence. like it is bad that you can discover this city by moving 1 tile on the map.

It's because it's not really a 'fix'. The AI is deliberately trying to sabotage you, and the only way to avoid it without mods is to get lucky and have an AI too far away to do it. I recommend the mods.

This is the reason most Maps i play end up in a world war because vamp hobits decide to tr< and set up shop right in my frontlawn, and im to impatient to wait for casus belli manufactoring. And these are only the second most annoying Race i had the displeasure to deal with.

It get's especially awkward when you make your own race to be the sole survivors of some kind of disaster that killed the rest of their people and then there are these guys right next to you oblivious to the end of the world. There are world settings though that remove free cities entirely. Maybe you should try that.

You can always go by the explanation used in the first story mission. You arrived to the area as one group, but there was a schism and some people left. You get to choose how to handle it after that (talk them around to rejoining, conquer them or kill the traitors).

I mean, city-states are part of many 4X games, Moo/MoM had them, Stellaris had them, Civ had them, EU IV had tons. I'd say the opposite: Most 4X games have some version of the "city-state," whether they called them "Lost colonies," or "Independent cities" they are usually featured in 4x.

This reminds me.
One of the fun parts of age of wonders 3 was starting without a city and conquering one.
Having your capital be whatever spieces you manage to conquer.

I miss age of wonders 3 map generator.
It was great.

This planetfall forced to start with an city is boring.
We are suppose to be wizard kings reshaping the locals.
Let us conquer a random civilization and reshape it to our dark will.

yeah i dont know if im a fan of how close you get a neutral city by you at the start. Mostly because of the fact it almost always b-lines towards my base when it annexes provinces making it impossible to annex provinces i had wanted for myself. The AI factions forward settling me every game is annoying too. AI is overly passive in every other aspect aside from when it comes to making new cities. they always make sure to set outposts right next to my city in spaces i need to expand by like tunr 8 or 10. quite annoying. I love this game but theres a lot of really annoying stuff about it that makes me not play it more often.

I suspect it is to give you justification for war?
A poorly designed choice but i can see the logic.

I remind you. The issue isn't that city states exist.

The issue is they Spawn the bare minimum distance away from your capital.

Good news is that it can be modded afaik.

Is there a mod that removes this? So annoying.

It's an independent city that you can get to be your vassal (gives you some gold and mana and now and then lets you recruit units from it) or eventually join you.

BUT - I completely agree with you. It is incredibly annoying to have it so close to your capital, blocking off provinces you could otherwise take over early in the game. Should be further away.

AND there is one thing you can do to stop it happening - make your own realm/ random map and choose the 'No Free Cities' option. Then there'll be no independent cities in the game.. Only the starting cities of you and any other human and AI players, and any you build yourself or they build themselves later

You can create your own realm and choose the 'No Free Cities' realm trait for your random map.
