Its not "better" its rather different, Lords of Magic is ambient music, but its the best ambient music you can hope to hear in a game like this, listen it a bit more and longer, it fits the magic elments pretty well, too, clearly superior to AoW2 themes, i replaced the music files with those as you can listen to them all day long, but AoW2s get repititve pretty fast or maybe thats just me since i played WT and SM for many years in mp nonstop and only some Lords of Magic, the game was inferior as a game, but had good graphic and sound artists, a real tragedy.
Maybe you want to start to listen to the order theme its the most medieval track for Lords of Magic.
Lords of the realm II is good, too but more fast paced in comparission.
Bold claim! But yes, i have to admit its one of the better OSTs of HoMM.
My favorite track is the water theme.
But did you have the pleasure to listen to HoMM II OST, that came way before this? Its important to not confuse the orginal "Succession Wars" OST with the "Price of Loyalty" OST, the latter one was an expansion and it did replaced the great music OST of the original release with an inferior one(some meh midi tracks). Quite a number of people do not know this when playing something like a gold edition, that only has the worse OST.
So here is the original HoMM II OST as first released in the 90ies.

As you perhaps notice, each castle theme is german opera, in the mid 90ies, no game had this, and Homm IV was very inspired by this, as its again opera.
Like all castle themes, the enchanting grass theme or field theme turned the entire game into a fairy tale acustic wise and "battle theme 3" is easily my favorite combat track of the entire series!!!
Herzog 2, nice.
Planetfall had allready a solid OST, one of Michiel van den Bos finest.

But since you have brought up Herzog Zwei, i'll give you Phantasy Star II

Thank You, this is Awesome!
With Heroes of Might and Magic IV my favorite is the "grass medley" for strategic map.
At the time so many people hated Heroes of Might and Magic IV because it was remarkably different from prior games. But, it was my favorite of the series. I especially loved the "Galdoth Half-Dead" story and campaign.
Since you know your stuff, use this if you're a necromancer in AoW4 (this is the remastered soundtrack):

You can also use this in lieu of the entire AoW4 sountrack, I am sure you know this one too:

Played Simon's Quest in the 80ies and could listen to the orginal 8 bit "Bloody Tears" an all time classic, something special about the rousing 8 bit version.
Yeah, i usually check out undead design first in any given AoW game, e.g. Sepctre that undead lvl 3 unit was bad in WT, so i made a post bout it 22 years ago at HG and the devs buffed it in SM and it turns out to be one of the stronger lvl3 units, it had also weak stats in WT that it was more like a lvl2 unit. That was before modding was a big thing, too.
Why should any game be about the op Archons? And yet, still too many played Archons in SM MP, me included, of course when i do, i start on wasteland eating my crops, hehe.
Anyways, thats my Castlevania contribution, "Hearts of Fire" from the original game:

There is this nice Batman(8 Bit NES) track, that sounds like it was stolen from a castlevania game, i think this one needs not to hide from Bloody Tears.

Golden Axe and Streets of Rage, awesome! Played the arcarde version of Golden Axe and Streets of Rage seems to be a favorite target for A.I. memes in these times.
As for SM if you played Yaka or just his model/portrait, this song from Queens was most effective.
Yaka and Emperor Ming are look alikes, love the evil laughter enjoying destruction in the intro.
Nothing's wrong, about some "hot hail", right?

Once downloaded a music pack for SM at HG that was full with Knights of Honor tracks, i must say this really worked for this kind of game, especilaly in mp when it was more about units and tension.
Sword and Faith the very first track, sounds very much like a conan tune.
March of Honor is probably my favorite, but the entire ost is good to hear in the background lots of variation.

Again, nothing wrong about the orginal AoW music of each game, the artists did a great job, i just listened them way too long, so i had to spice it up.
