You can do chain battles anywhere and it should work fine but I like to look for those large rooms with the small alcove on the side with a bunch of chests. Those rooms spawn a whole bunch of enemies that all rush at you at the same time, forcing chain battles. I believe there's a tutorial your first time there that calls them "ambush zones". These are a real treat when you're tasked with chaining fights.
I'm sure you've been paying attention to your objectives but for anyone else confused be aware that team missions can and will come back, with the same teams, but different objectives, and of course don't miss that little gift box icon and forget to collect ;). If all else fails, the central core-slash-black mirror in the garden can reset your mini missions. I've never had to though because my game isn't broken :D.
Of course, if you good sirs above have found a solution, you're welcome to record it for posterity :).
