Doubt people who bought the CLE version made a dent, despite the weebs on this discussion board not wanting to hear it, most western fans want to play the game with the English dub. most "casual" fans are not buying a foreign language version and downloading a fan patch.
only a very small percentage of western fans probably bought the CLE version
MOST of us that bought the CLE version were also gonna buy the NISA version anyway to support the official release. its a shame that NISA don't care about kiseki as much as we do though.
Why do anime haters and fanservice haters don't like Cold Steel?
I don't get it.
I love anime, and I'm ok with fanservice. Cold Steel games are still trash next to Sky and Crossbell games.
It was never going to hit over 4,000 concurrent players. Many people who look at possibly getting into it are turned away because they don't want to spend a couple hundred dollars and 500+ hours needed of older games just to get caught up.
Instead of people suggesting more accessible avenues for new players looking to get into it, they just say you NEED to play these games, and most people aren't trying to do that. Direct people to a good story write up that does a decent job of catching people up in the games, and or direct them to a well made video that you've vetted that is adequate.
Or suggest they play a couple of the newer games, but watching videos or read write-ups on the rest. Anything before Cold Steel 3 would be a very hard sell for anyone to spend serious time on, in my opinion.
Anyways, the numbers aren't that bad for a niche franchise in a niche genre. It's also on GOG (will do anywhere from 3-7% of Steam's total sales based on what other developers have said their games do on GOG, and Cyberpunk 2077 not even managing 10% of the total PC sales on GOG), PS5 / PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
Next game might be higher than ToCS4, but we'll see. All that matters is they can continue making them, and chasing more sales or trying more to appeal to western sensibilities or audiences likely wouldn't be a good thing. I know I would stop buying them if they did that.
Ys IX had 1,350
Atelier Ryza 3 had 7,110
Final Fantasy 7 Remake had 13,800
Dragon Quest XI: EoaEA (no DE first time on PC) had 11,700
Tales of Arise had 60,270
Persona 5 Royal had 35,290
Plus you would also then have to minus sales from people that haven’t launched said game or gotten past the first chapters either which we know you wouldnt do
It’s a 3 year old niche game, at this point it’s only going to be so popular especially when barrier to entry on this series keeps expanding.
Second thing is not everyone play on Steam, for example I play on GOG version.
