This is the weakest entry and is only meant as a finisher of cold steel/sky. I personally have not played sky, I haven't gotten around to it yet, so I already care less about this game than previous cold steel entries simply because I have no connection to the crossbell characters.
I'll buy it eventually but not at full price.
It's more linear than the typical trails game but 'barely any side-content'? What are you bullshitting about? This game has a TON of side content likely more than any trails game. Play the game instead of giving your baseless opinion and criticize the game without playing it or the games before it for the best experience.
Nah there is far less sidecontent on a chapter by chapter basis here. The side content is, well, you know where it's located as you are such a huge fan of this game and all. I don't want to spoil it for other people and give away where it is but putting most of the side content there is a bad choice and there is far less of it than there was in the other games.
But I know precious cold steel isn't allowed be criticised harshly so I guess I should just not have said anything. I personally just think this game isn't as good as the others. And yes I have played large parts of it with the overlay patch/spreadsheet+basic japanese knowledge and the JP version. I personally just think this game isn't as good as the others and if you don't like my personal opinion then that's a you problem :).
Few reasons for that.
This game is love letter to fans of Sky, Crossbell and Cold steel series. So quite a lot of ppl asking - can i start with this one? To which fans who love series will answer - "you can, but you will barely enjoy it." And recommend to play previous titles. Then new ppl look at old titles and small % will play it, while other will just consider older games to be, well, too old to play.
NISA. Well a lot of ppl already finished this game, by using fan translation. Since not all fans putting much faith in NISA translation. Can't say anything about this entry, aside from change of sword maiden title to beauty sword. But i can't confirm or deny that, because you can check it only once you are almost at the end of the game. As always a lot of ppl arguing in topics on that one.
Trails is still pretty niche title. With rich story and world building. To fully enjoy it you need to invest decent amount of time in series, imho ofc. Not that many ppl willing to invest that much.
Also not exactly sure about advertisement, i myself didn't saw a lot. And only know about it because i am fan of the series.
The chapters are where the story occurs, they are separated from the side content to act as a none-filler story-telling which works fantastic for those who don't want to immerse in side content. Don't worry by now I'd presume everyone heard of the 'True Reverie Corridor' feature. There there's more side content to be found than any of the series. All the side content of CS4 in the form of mini games, plus over 50 characters to play with in a gigantic dungeon with badass rewards. No trails game has better side content than this very game and that is objective, friend.
It's your opinion and I don't mean to judge you for it, but saying this game has 'barely' side content is a barefaced lie.
A noteworthy amount of the player base has already played Haji already. For CS4, a PlayStation was required to play it early so a good amount of players hadn't played it.
My wording could have better, I fully admit that.
There is plenty of side content but it's all tucked away in different spots so the game feels , well, you said it yourself already, the game is far more linear. There is a lot less to explore in the world itself. That is 1 of the major things that turns me off from this game as well.
The reverie corridor is great, I don't deny that, the 50 characters being available is a great system as well. I personally just don't like this one as much as the rest because it just feels like I am moving in a straight line from A to B and I am barely thrown any side stuff along the way. I am just walking through a corridor(not entirely, there is a bit more freedom than a corridor but you know what I mean I am sure). I miss that feeling of getting thrown a bunch of sidequests to do and learning more about the world and it's people even if we have learned most of it by now from the other games.
I guess I should have just rephrased it in such a way that the side content is more poorly distributed this time. And obviously this is purely based of my personal opinion, I may have generalised it a bit earlier as stated it as 1 of the main reasons why there is fewer players but this obviously only counts for me prsonally.
Still with the advent of IGN's review video which has over 100k views plus it scored 8 I was really expecting higher numbers. A shame.
Ah you referred to the sidequests. I see. In that case, yes. There's no sidequests, but for me it feels refreshing. If I want to just breeze through the main story, I can do so. If I want to just battle nonstop with great amount of playable characters it is possible. The lack of sidequests makes the pacing better for the main story. Yes some of the sidequests are great but a good number of them are average, sometimes these quests are mandatory. Therefore it's refreshing to see a trails game without sidequests for a change for better or worse.
Yes, the main story itself is more streamlined and linear ( thank god for that) but there is so much side content later, the "daydream" episodes alone add like 20 hours of content if you want to watch them all and all the mini games that unlock more stuff and the extra dungeon with the secret final boss and and and.
Its not a short game overall.
