Hamir is terrible
You rely on his stamina charge up, although you also loose stamina when making attacks equally. The enemy AI does NOT attack you if you are not attacking, making you starved for Stamina, loosing little by little because the opponent AI will eventually get GROW or something.

Spending upto 10 minutes per fight, which is just not fun. Hamirs ability is a handicap more than an upgrade. With slade I was wrecking it, but as Hamir im getting destroyed.

Am I doing something wrong?

Update: A patch came out making Hamir not terrible, and the baiting attacks gameplay was done across the board and not just for Hamir (I noticed this).

No, you're correct. Being in a stalemate with one enemy for as long as it took me to do the entirety of Slade's bit does not good gameplay make.

The enemy absolutely refuses to attack if your defense is higher than their attack.

I came here ready to make the same exact post. I'm trying to figure out what the play is because sometimes I can get them to attack if I roll up to just the right amount to block, but that hardly gives me much progress if they even take the bait.
I breeze through the previous two and then hit a brick wall with this guy as I never have any stamina. I would love to be told I'm just being dumb if it is followed by an explanation of how, but this guy seems pretty worthless.

Side note, I know that pivot can often make good progress but it feels like I rarely have enough speed to make any of his moves worth it while also having enough accuracy to actually use them.

Finally made it through his chapter by spamming food and his ultimate. Barely had to use items on the other characters. I'm all for a difficulty jump but I feel like I'm going to have to slog through future chapters with Hamir.

Try using roll to bait enemies into attacking - it should provide defense and not change the enemy behavior. The resulting blocks can help build your stamina.

I feel like that's a very, VERY specific window in order to do that. It's only possible if your speed is higher, and the enemy's attack is just high enough over your defense that you bait the attack into a higher defense.

Tried Roll, they choose to do something else instead. Rarely does it bait an attack. I think there is something wrong because I feel as if the enemy can decide what to do if you go first. What I mean is, they can choose to do something else based off of what you do. Stuff like roll or Defence+ moves require that you are first anyway, right?

More on topic of Hamir....

Doing a lava floor, taking out enemies with 1 hp left, spending a long time getting stuff, got an awesome item. Only to get killed by a miss timed movement... Well dang my bad. Only to see that my floor time was 60 minutes!!! My God!!! So slow playing as this guy and it takes forever to get a groove going.

I just got startet on this character in Story Mode an was like... the hell is wrong with this dude? "Ill show you the powah of STAMINA" and then i can not even use Stamina for my dices, but some dumb system that just drains it for some 1 or 2 STA Dices? With like zero Stamina left then, i can barely keep my defense up against enemys that use stamina against me.
Can this Dude get a new system please? Hamir is absolute trash.

It wouldn't be quite as painful if you could bait out attacks more reliably, but enemies will sometimes still refuse to attack if you're faster than them and could potentially block an attack with roll. If he had access to something that could lower an enemy's accuracy on their next turn (preferably without dealing damage and sacrificing precious stamina) it would feel like less of a slog since you could effectively restrict their move pool.

This is what happens when you try to be too gimmicky in a game. A regular turn-based RPg would have been better.

As it stands the game isn't in a good spot when the AI literally cheats by changing what it does based on what you do. Every other turn based roguelike I've played has had enemies use predetermined moves that allow you to plan ahead.

You can pretty easily manipulate the AI into attacking into your block. AI picks its move before combat begins, so you just set up the speed/def dice so you're faster and are within 2 def of the enemies attack. It's entirely telegraphed and predictable.

Hamir isn't that weak, but he is very tedious as you have to recharge his stamina every single battle because he always loses two on the last hit (and inability to use Stamina makes some fights a lot more annoying). Easily least favourite character to play as.

What are you on about, the game literally doesn't tell you what move the enemy is using before it uses it. it's not like slay the spire where you can predict if there will be an attack or a buff/debuff at the start of every turn.

Hard disagree. The combat system is quite interesting if you get the hang of it, the problem is more specific to Hamir than the gameplay itself.
