Is Pac-Man 256 in Pac-Man Museum+ the same as the standalone version on Steam?

Likewise. The only difference is the amount of grinding needed for achievements.

What I do know is that the standalone "256" features remote play together, which is arguably more convenient for a multiplayer experience, as you can stream to a friend or family to join, and I have done this many times. Pac-Man Museum+ does not feature any support for remote play together. I tried forcing it through a GitHub workaround, but was running into some control-related issues that needed to be sorted out.

Edit:

I found some other differences. There is nothing major, but there are less individual settings/options in the Museum+ version as well and missing arrows on the interface when navigating maze selection.

Let's not forget that your save data is not carried over between the two, so get back to grinding!
