Do Hatchdays Matter? At all?

I'm only about two weeks in for the game time, and so I've only seen Molly's hatchday. I made sure to talk to her, gave her a gift she liked, and she had no unique dialogue at all; he said the same thing she said the first time I gave her that same gift. I'm not understanding why the Overview tab bothered to alert me of her Hatchday, unless I overlooked something.

On that note, Basil's Hatchday seems to be Month 20, Day 5... how long is a year cycle?? I'm only on Month 1, Day 14 or 15, which feels awfully early to have maxed out my store size and paid off the 500,000 Amber debt. Something seems to be very off with how time progresses versus how the game progresses.

Month 20 Day 5 sounds like a typo, since the calendar page in the journal seems to use the Gregorian calendar (January, February, March, etc), so it'd be 12 months to a year.
But yeah, hatch days don't seem to do anything, not yet anyhow; I had a similar experience with Coral's hatch day where I gave them some corn cakes and didn't seem to get any notable results out of the ordinary.
