You dont really have that much to do, its either your supermarket simulator or collecting stuff for your supermarket simulator (With some decorating you unlock with time). There isnt stuff like fishing or bug catching, and the museum is really lackluster, sometimes you get rare stuff by doing the stuff you are already doing, its basically just an extra item you get sometimes.
The selling gameplay is nothing like anything in Animal crossing, but its very well done and has many little aspects to it, like the category of the day that Paleo more want, or favourite categories from the Paleo. Its more well made than people give it credit for.
The item collecting feels similar to fruit collecting in animal crossing, "but eventually needing gold tools", but its more fun here because the place is prettier and unlocking more areas makes collecting very fun.
A big part of animal crossing, at least every game but horizons, is the villager conversations. Amber Isle is NOT good at this aspect, the conversations outside of the story are boring and empty.
BUT the dialouge REALLY shines IN the story. Every Paleo is written extremely well, with their own quirks. Going through the story is fun because the people are fun.
Animal Crossing is a game you can pick up and play always, you wont really progress anything but your own goals. Amber Isle is more of a game you beat the story with, there arent many goals you can set for yourself.
It is a good game, if youre interested in a Animal crossing that gives you instant gratification, instead of a long term one, this is for you. If youre looking for a farm sim kind of game you put triple digit hours in, this game wont give you much reason to do so.
