[Slight story spoiler] Mirage's...design?
If you haven't met Mirage yet, I advise you to not continue reading this. You've been warned.

I have met Mirage twice now. First after paying off my first debt and then shortly before unlocking the last 2 regions where we learn that OrbCorp wants to destroy everything. Why does NO ONE acknowledge that Mirage looks exactly like us?? Like, none of the other residents are like "Huh, Mirage looks like our shopkeeper, that's odd". It's just a personal pet peeve I have, as my dino does have a slightly unique design, yet not even Clawsworth is getting suspicious of Mirage's look.

At first I thought it was just a coincidence untill I started a second playthrough, I will have to progress the story to see if it means anything.

I thought it was a coincidence too, but when I changed a small detail about my shopkeeper, Mirage had the same thing changed about them when I met them again. I just wish that at least Adi or Maple made a comment about how Mirage and I look oddly alike. Like...every other Paleofolk has a unique design about them, even the Trike siblings, while same species, look very different to eachother. So with Mirage and us looking like carbon copies of eachother, I wish someone would acknowledge it...

I finished the game and it is never acknowledged or explained why they resemble your character. Unless there's some secret scene I failed to unlock, I didn't 100% all the side quests and achievements.

I had the exact same idea about Mirage being the evil family relative of the protagonist

I was legit worried about some attempt of being replaced by 'em when I first saw them.
Kind of a shame it's never played upon that they are a look-alike.

I had the same thing on my run, but my friend didn’t. Her character was a pink cat thing, but Mirage showed as a grey dinosaur to her. Dunno if this is a minor glitch or what, but it is a little amusing lol

I restarted the game and got back to the point when you first see Mirage... he was the same dino as me, markings and all, but where I was a bright pink and blue colour, Mirage was the same light and dark grey colour I first saw when I saw them in my first game. xD

Just got to my first encounter with them. From now on I'm just going to say that they are my Paleofolk's long lost twin sibling.
So a theory my friend and I have, now that I started my second playthrough with him watching;

As the name "Mirage" states, maybe we're just hallucinating them actually looking like us. As in, this is what we could've been like if we chose greed and money over actual hard work. Not sure if there's any truth behind this, after all it's just a theory when I mentioned the whole situation to a friend of mine and he saw how Mirage acted in-game.

I like to think that Mirage has the ability to look like any Paleofolk they choose to, and with the way they try and take the credit of the player's hard work instead it's likely they decided to copy the player's appearance. The entire look-a-like thing with Mirage could also be a strategy they have in order to try and get the residents of Amber Isle to trust them by looking like someone they trust, or perhaps Mirage appears differently to each Paleofolk while for the player they appear as a copy of us. As for Mirage appearing as a gray Paleofolk with zero resemblance to the player, that's either a glitch or perhaps something hidden within the games files that has a very rare chance of happening, like they originally had some sort of design for Mirage maybe in their beta testing of the game before changing it but never really getting rid of the model file.
I'm only just getting into the story and I just met Mirage, but with a name Mirage, honestly, why wouldn't they look like us? I think Toxic's (fella before me) theory works. I think they're meant to look like us to make us feel uneasy about them.
The "Mirage looks like who they want to look like" theory does fit but it would have been nice if it fit into the game's plot. local cryptid's idea was a good one too, where if you set your prices too high/were too greedy that Mirage would gain more of your color or something while your character became more faded. would be a nice twist. All in all, I wish OrbCorp was more sinister than just a cliched 80's movie corporate villain. It would be cool if they returned at some point after the main story line.
