I don't care if you feel that they're objectively worse. I for one am not going to buy this collection because it doesn't include 1, 2 or 3. And I'm not going to buy an old console to play games that are "objectively worse."
The fact remains (as others have said) if a game is a sequel, there are story elements or characterisation that is often lost from jumping into the most recent game (unless it's something like Duke Nukem.) Therefore, if I jump into a series, I want to know all that stuff, rather than have to piece it together, like if I played Mass Effect 3 without having completed the first two.
That being said, I appreciated the 4th game waaay more going into it knowing the characters, and the previous adventures that are referenced throughout the game. Oh and the ending is way more emotional if you carry the memories from those earlier games with you.
I'm so happy people who don't have a PlayStation are getting the chance to experience these adventures. At the same time I'm equally sad that the first three games are, at least as of now, not being ported to PC
