All the uncharted games are on-rail narrative-focused shooters; And if anything this and Lost legacy are the *least* linear since they actually played around a bit with the open vehicle segments...
You most assuredely can fail and miss platforming jumps, and you're acting as though the walking and talking is a negative..? The writing, dialogues and S-Tier VA work is literally the reason why the series is critically and culturally acclaimed. This is up there with saying something like 'There's too much dialogue in Disco Elysium' in terms of bad takes.
Clearly this type of game is not for you OP, but the narrative heavy, singleplayer story-focused saga's are what Sony games are generally known for, and why a lot of their stuff wins GOTY accolades..
I don't remember the cutscenes being aggressively long at all. There's a thread in the Midnight Fight Express forum about people moaning that they want to skip all the dialogues (You can.. I don't know why that thread exists..) And just recently in the new Triangle Strategy forum the other day there's people talking about there being too much text and story.. in a freaking JRPG..
Can we.. not try to ruin the singleplayer epics that we have left in this day and age of games-as-a-service- multiplayer things dominating the market everywhere?
Uncharted 4 as I recall has too much dialogue but most of the dialogue is highly relevant to the lore and build up of Captain Avery's treasure, Nate and the people he meets or fights. The one thing I noticed is that players that just jumped to 4 without playing the first three will find the game mediocre or just good. Those that did follow the first three games and completed the 4th had a much better experience, like the players that played Mass Effect 1 to 3 instead of just 3.
I absolutely loved all the heavy Scenes with Elana when she appears midway through, and again during their psuedo marriage counselling talks inbetween fighting off waves of merceneries :P, but I can see how this wouldn't hit nearly as hard for newcomers coming in with this game only.
So, with all respect, you are completely wrong @OP. Mid opinion is mid.
It was amazing.
Except for Nadine.
