Game crashing on 4090 & 13900KS
This game keeps crashing on my PC during gameplay, in Episode 7, 11...
This one I started it last fall, played like 4-5 hours and no crashes at all. But now I wanted to continue it and...

Other games won't crash, for instance I just played Last of Us for 40 hrs in total and no crashes at all...

Modified sharedsettings as well, put both values 0 there.
I don't know if it is the game itself or a driver version...

Is there a workaround in the end?

I removed my conservative and in other games very trouble-free CPU overclocking. Hard pill to swallow but I was forced to admit that this game stopped crashing.

THIS. Yeah...It's rare, but some games get goofy with OC systems. (I should probably remember this too...) :2018bestcoffee:

my system is not overclocked, just the xmp enabled
videocard is default...

13900KS, Apex Z790, 2x16 6400C32 XMP, 990Pro 2TB, RTX 4090 Liquid X, Soundblaster AE-7, Razer Huntsman, Razer Viper8K

W10 22H2 with the last updates

found other guys on Reddit with the same system as mine and they blame also the game
when I did the first chapters last fall I had NO crashes whatsoever, but chapter 9 is already unplayable
could be the driver, or the updates since?

I'll tried another driver,s then set unlimited cache from the NVPanel
I'm usually keeping HAGS disabled, Game Mode disabled as well

verified the game files, everything ok

I'll also set u4.exe and u4-l.exe as admin

after about 1hr playing, game crashed to desktop, but now a sony error message popped up to send the error back to them...

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. It's a shame, because it's an awesome game.

Did you let the game finish building the shaders while in the main menu before starting to play ?

When I had crashes, many of my searches lead me to understand that some people experienced problems after an Nvidia driver update. Some of them reported having solved the problem by rolling back to an older driver. That, unfortunately is a lot of work, trials and errors just to play a game to my opinion.

I'm using the latest 536.99 driver and the game is loading and working without any problems and Windows 11 22H2. Just saying.

I let it finish the shaders. To both of them. Read somewhere that it's recommended to build both game's shaders, then to play it. Yeah and did the unlimited shaders too.
And it's too bad because it's an awesome game indeed.

disable any background app
La_Chose Aug 21, 2023 @ 10:42pm
Maybe it will fix itself with a next Nvidia driver update ?
BlastThyName Aug 22, 2023 @ 4:15pm
where does it crash, what game (remember the collection contains 2) and what chapter ?
kvarq Aug 24, 2023 @ 8:24am
I started just the first one... thief's end
chapter 1-5 no crash at all, started with 6 the first one before going into the castle at the auction, then randomly until 9 where crashes were really often, it crashed pretty much everywhere a milestone has been reached...

I was having the same issue with 13900K, 6400 Trident, 4090 Liquid, Z790 Carbon, 990 SSD, so very close to your setup.... After 2 months of nonstop digging, it turns out the Gigabyte software for the 4090 running in background and one other (Cant remember @ moment) software was causing all my crashing problems in several games (including this one). Now everything runs rock solid for me. Hope this works for you....

I don't have any background app, not MSI Afterburner whatsoever etc...
the game is fun though, so hopefully I'll assume the crashes then, saw lots of ppl having those
but kinda bad, crashing is ruining the atmosphere :(

Yeah no its a damn shame if you REALLY want to go past that point you can download a save file for a completed game then go back to the chapter you were at / do encounter selects finish the chapter like that then play the next one using save files

Install GPU drivers after a DDU clean, verify game files, run system scan to check for corrupted files. If these help then great.

I also have a high end setup (13900K + 4090 + 990 Pro SSD + 64GB RAM). GPU is heavily overclocked and I didn't have any crashes when I played it.

Idk if the latest driver has issues but these are some steps you might want to try.
