Chapter 6 Game crashing to desktop
I'm experiencing a consistent reproducible crash to desktop in Chapter 6 when Sam attaches the rope to an external spotlight and reaches out to pull Nathan on the ledge. Crashes everytime at that point, done it 4 times in a row now. Anyone else experiencing this. Other than that game is running perfectly butter smooth. 3900X / RTX 3080 12GB / Windows 11

I do not know how it works, but it helped me, put the graphics settings on medium, then make the game in windowed mode and turned off vertical sync, then start the game, when the game will start you can press alt + enter for full-screen mode.
I found it helped pass Chapter 6, without crashes, although before that was a constant crashes at the same point.
Made it worse

Same problem here but at the start of chapter 15. Game crashed about 5 or 6 different times in the same spot and now I can not open the game at all. Keeps crashing during the loading pictures.

Can confirm this is a 100% fix, thanks!

Well, it's clearly not a 100% fix if it doesn't work for everybody. Also, he did a bunch of things at once and now nobody knows which of these is the actual fix. If it is at all. Might even be pure coincidence (could be that the game just worked after the xth try, and none of this was needed).

Yeah, after first installing the game the alt+enter worked for me to get past the loading images. But then after the chapter 15 crashes it never worked again. I just installed the older gtx 1080 driver and game is running better than ever. Shaders were able to build a lot faster than before too.

Same here, but while I'm trying to pick pocket the waiter. Stuck there...

Core i7 6700, GTX 1070, 24 GB RAM, Win10

I have the exact same issue as you where it crashes after Nate tries to pickpocket the waiter for the third time. It also crashed on me during the cutscene where Sam meets back up with Nate but it only happened one time. i7-6700K, GTX 1080 Ti (Driver version: 522.25), 16 GB RAM, Windows 10. Starting the game in safe mode, disabling iCUE keyboard integration, and putting the graphics settings on low all failed to prevent it from crashing. Any help with fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

This ended up helping me on a second attempt. Thank you.

same later in the game when inspecting a skeleton with a suit of armor and spears

For those with issues, try locking the frame rate to no more than 120hz, also I found going into the games folder and turning on "run as administrator" on both the u4.exe and tll.exe helps the random CTD.

Just got a random crash too. Funny, right after my refund time. Hmm.

2.4 hours. I may still be able to get a refund.

This crash happened in the prison breakout when you play as Sam.

i7-12700k, RTX 3080 12GB. Windows 11 22H2.

Game is running great besides that.

Sorry it didn't work for you, but glad it worked for me. Truth is Hardy's solution is not a "fix", it's a workaround. The game clearly needs some sort of patch to fix the problem.
