I think it enables the walk by default when going into story parts, and disables when gameplay starts. That's why I never though of pressing the "walk button" to stop walking and move normally.
The description on the keybindings is very misleading too. I think it'd be better "Toggle walk/run", something like that. Hoping the developers still address this, because many people may experience the same problem...
This game obviously wasn't made for K+M

Well it is very useful but the top speed of walking is quite slow for me. Is there any way to speed up the pace like the walking-speed in "walking segments" of the game?
i’m pretty sure you can change walking speed ingame. and the highest walking speed was well quite high) nathan was almost running
- by script default, hold CapsLock key to walk.
- while holding CapsLock key, HOLD Mouse Button X1 to decrease walk speed, Mouse Button X2 to increase walk speed, and click Middle Mouse Button to reset walk speed
