So Uncharted is great but why no 1-3?

I mean I am happy with how Sony is treating the PC community, offering a lot of their big titles on PC now.

And beggars can't be choosers...

But I mean its normally common sense to release the older games first in chronological order, also makes selling the subsequent releases easier to the consumer base.

I mean it is basic marketing, is there a reason why 1-3 weren't ported? Exclusivity contracts (intellectual property rights) or something?

There was rumours going around about Naughty Dog remaking Last of Us Part 1 using the LoU P2 engine, and some other rumours mentioning remaking the first 3 Uncharted games (tho I don't think it was Naughty Dog doing this last time I heard).

If any of this holds water my guess would be they want to wait on those before bringing the first 3 to PC.

I'm actually willing to bet money on Last of Us Part 1 and 2 coming to PC around the time they release P1 PS5 remake (same time frame we're getting with Uncharted PS5/Steam release if I had to guess). Then whenever the Uncharted 1-3 remakes come to console (if its real), they'll probably come out within a year on PC like the current collection.

It's the only reason they'd hold off making easy money. They could have easily released the original 3 collection before the Legacy of Thieves collection, and made twice as much.

So my money is on remakes to bring them more in line with Uncharted 4.

You can’t just “remaster” a PS3 game and slap it on PC, this isn’t Xbox, Windows has no clue what to do with PlayStation API calls, it would be the equivalent to speaking another language it requires a complete remake to port a PlayStation exclusive to PC.

Well yes, even making a game for PS3 in the first place was a major pain in the ass, porting it to PC wouldn't be any better. It's a good thing, though, that both the Uncharted trilogy and the first TLoU were remastered for PS4 already and porting a PS4 game to PC is way easier.

Because this collection is an advertisement for the PS4 versions of the original trilogy. You're not getting them and you never will get them.

Except this makes no sense. Literally no PC player would buy a PS4 to play Uncharted 1-3 after playing Uncharted 4 on PC.

That's your opinion. But look at the evidence. They ported both Horizon Zero Dawn AND God Of War, with no plans of giving you the sequels, all to get you to buy a PS5 for them. They're only porting things as glorified teasers.

It may come as a surprise, but many(I think most, actually) PC players will gladly wait for HFW and GOW:R to come out on PC instead of buying a PS5 right now.
Also, those situations are different. This Uncharted collection of U4 and The Lost Legacy is a teaser for what, exactly? For the first 3 games which came out way back on PS3 and were remastered on PS4?

Makes a lot of sense to buy a companie that only ports game to pc, to release "glorified teasers"

There was a time when people thought that games from internal Sony studios, like Horizon Zero Dawn or God of War will never come out on PC. Like, at all. Period. And yet here we are. HFW and GOW:R coming out on PC is not a question of "if", but "when".

So the official response was that 1-3 are not nearly as polished as 4 by modern standards. The quote was, officially from a sony rep (can't be bothered to find it again) that the nathan drake collection would need a "major overhaul" to come to PC. I suppose this means it's not out of the question, but it would take longer than it took for 4. Frankly, this is a piss poor excuse. Uncharted 4 was billed as the big finale. How the ♥♥♥♥ do you bring a big finale to a platform with people unable to pay for the first 3? I fortunately bought a PS4 and the Nathan drake collection, so I will play it. Beat uncharted 1 on rpcs3, though. It's a rough ride. The stick aiming made it a pain, and it feels like a slog. But I managed to finish it in a day, so not too bad all things considered. It's 22 chapters. And, to be fair, that ending sequence was worth it, if not the final showdown and last chapter or 2 being a ♥♥♥♥♥. Died a lot on easy. With a mouse I'd have been 10x happier. But I'm glad I didn't just skip right to 4. Still, this is annoying, and I hope sony doesn't plan on just ignoring this. It's appauling enough to release 4 without 1-3 present, but to then just expect us to never have it? Nah. That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

This is incorrect. I actually had psnow, and was playing uncharted 1 that way. Currently, as of fall 2020, uncharted 1-3 are NOT ON PS PLUS premium. It was on PSnow. I was 3/4 of the way through. I had to start all over because my save is on the psnow cloud, and the game doesn't exist. There's no Nathan Drake collection either. Only 4 is on PS premium. That's, frankly, even more ergregious. I am very annoyed I had to start over. But if they are trying to use this to push subscriptions, they are doing a poor job considering with a subscription, I can't play it.
