That was one of the first things I tried. Disabling Steam controls, enabling xbox controls and 3rd party, remapping the controls, all did nothing for me. I've tried pretty much everything I can think of on my end.
I even managed to remap the mouse buttons to the triggers in game, and the triggers work when I do this, unfortunately it isn't a solution since the aiming is so slow due to the mouse sensitivity, the joystick barely moves the reticle.
Waiting to hear back from IoI still. They are likely on xmas break unfortunately.
I can only advise you to test things out again in the game options for the controls. Different scheme / different assignment, etc. You only need Steam Controls these days if you want to play ancient games without controller support. Everything supports the Xbox controller out of the box these days.
If you're the type of user who deletes files as a "solution" to a problem, think about what you've deleted recently. This seems to have become quite common in the last few months. But there are always consequences.
You can also check pcgamingwiki to see where the settings file is located on the disk. If the settings are correct there too, then it must be something else that has been changed.
e: You don't use any software or hardware-mods for fast-trigger action or anything like that? Shorter trigger way until full activation. Some games require the full way. I haven't specifically tested it on Hitman.
None of the steam controller settings, on or off, have had an impact. Neither has rebinding through steam (except if I rebind the mouse buttons to the triggers it will detect the triggers as expected). I have no problem with these controllers in any other games, and this only recently started happening in Hitman 3. I have used the same controller to play several hundred hours on all 3 WOA games since 2016.
I've done a clean install and validated files through steam. I've also not manually deleted any files, except to clear the .bin cache files as directed by the customer service rep I talked to.
No software or hardware mods for controllers. I have an open ticket with IoI just hoping they come figure it out since this wasn't an issue before the last patch.
I'll take a look at pcgamingwiki for the setting files, but from what I have read from older similar topics is that this isn't a new problem and the files are not easily accessible on the user end.
Do you have the latest firmware on the controllers? (Xbox Accessories App - you can at least update the One with it)
If game settings are also saved via the steam cloud, then a new installation would be pointless, as the synchronization will then restore the settings. You could, however, restore control settings in-game.
It's very likely that there are settings problems. Be it in the OS or in the game. Especially since two controllers from different generations are affected at the same time, while those elsewhere still work without any problems. But it is not directly a bug. Then the forum would already be full of this topic. Unless people still don't know what to buy... :D
No only one controller at a time. I have tried unplugging all peripherals and using various combinations also as I had the same thought.
The controllers are up to date.
I've never changed the control settings in or out of the game, but I guess the steam cloud is something to look into thanks. Unfortunately there is no way of changing the controls for a gamepad in game.
I would be inclined to agree with you on that last point, but I currently lack a desk setup and only use this PC for controller based games, and none of the other games installed on this system have an issue with the controllers... this implies to me at least that this is a Hitman 3 problem. Also, ioi acknowledged it as a bug in my communication with them so... I know this was a bug that existed on the Epic games version on launch, I very much doubt I caused it I was playing fine before the latest patch and then suddenly this is an issue. There is also another person above having this same issue, so there are at least two of us.
