I just wanted a fish for some sedative poison and it took me forever! It was only after eleven driftwood, two fishing lines, and a freaking pirate sword that I finally found a fish in my lake. The first two times I went fishing I got a fish first try. I don't know if I was super lucky then or incredibly unlucky this time.

Random is random, usually I get one within 1 to 5, but I've had as many as 30+ attempts before getting a fish.

It's probably better to just move on after a few attempts and try again later.

yeah the randomness is a bit insane, I don't even bother with the fish anymore. It'd be better if you were guaranteed to get a fish on the 3rd cast but was otherwise still random, or if you could bank / bring back fish for future missions in the fridge or something.
