Why can't they add cross-progression from epic games to steam?

I hate exclusivity (and Epic Fail store) and from the start I knew this will be the case so I waited for Steam realease and it was worth it but some people never see the patterns and blindly buy game there ("iT's cHeApEr") and then come crying to Steam discussions, asking for game crash fixes and fixing other problems. You get what you paid for and Epic is not caring about customers, only developers.
Imagine getting stuck on platform you hate just to play and keep progress for one game...

Not even Microsoft with the Forza games can add cross-progression between Steam and Xbox Store (PC), much less can IOI do it.
