for example, a mission takes longer than expected and in real life I had to do something and quit, I cant just go back to the start of the mission?
And, let say I finished the first 2 missions and dont have time for the 3rd, it is counted as a fail and I lose everything from the first 2 missions?!? This cant be right
Your progress is saved when you finish a mission, and you can leave the game when you're at the safehouse and continue where you left off without penalty.
You get penalized if you leave a mission without killing all your targets or if you quitting to menu / desktop regardless of your completed objectives, but those missions should usually only take at most 10 minutes to accomplish, so if you need to go either just go speedrun the mission or pause the game.
Alternatively you can ALT+F4 and the game will not penalize you, but don't overuse it to cheese the missions because that's kinda lame.
also they might as well have left the save/load feature in the game since you can Alt+f4 as many times as you want.
This isn't even mentioning how cheaty hardcore freelancer can be. Guards just magically know your exact last known position and will even shoot hiding spots for no reason if your last known position is near there (I went AFK in a Santa Fortuna bin and came back dead despite not even being compromised / hunted and no one seeing me enter the bin, I even waited 5 minutes before going AFK and had no heat).
Its extremely common to see a guard that knows nothing about you or what you have done come running at 100mph from their post to your exact location on hardcore, even if no one could even report that position (like being behind multiple doors / walls).
They will be extra quick to go into combat too its not uncommon to get hardcore guards to start open firing at seemingly nothing. I've been hiding in a bin and had guards on the other side of the map start open firing at nothing and draw other guards attention (assuming it was a bugged last known position).
And yeah a save / load system would be very nice they could just make it cost merces / add a merce penalty to your score and only give you one save + load. Or you can preemptively buy a save slot in the safe house for that mission so you can still have the edge of freelancer without every map being able to save / load. Syndicate Leaders will always have saves disabled. -2,500 Merces in the safehouse,-25% Merces / xp on map completion and all civs have their kill cost tripled if saves are enabled (-150 per civ kill). Basically you pay to lower the risk but lower the reward too.
And unfortunately I don't think the devs even bugfix anymore so that kinda sucks as well.
