I'm 50-50 with this. Yes freelancer is when you want more challenges you normally wont get from other modes, and I have enjoyed it so far (currently level 62, with one time prestige). My suggestion is forget how you do it in story mode, and be more creative. Often you won't find the target alone, so even just having them at your line of sight (even with many NPCs nearby) is enough for assassination (a suppressed gun is highly recommended)

I'm okay with losing gear and money from failing, but what I'm not okay with, is the no saves and "you quit you lose" mechanic. I never quit because the mission was too hard; I quit because I have something to do in real life (work, family, house chores, etc), or a few rare times because internet connection problem.

You can just force the game closed and you won't lose the mission, it will just kick you back to before the mission; which is never more than a couple of minutes time lost.

I close most of my games with alt + f4 anyway simply because it's faster than digging through menus to exit a game.

And if you're just doing "house chores" why even close the game? I pause when I'm doing laundry or cooking, not a big deal.

Looking at your hours, I do also suggest playing through the main campaign (1, 2 and 3) on Professional and repeating some of the levels with different methods before going into Freelancer, though I don't suggest 100%ing the game before going into Freelancer.

Also before you do the main Campaign, do every Assassination challenge in the Freeform training to unlock the lockpick (there's only 8 (Versatile is a challenge which is unlocked when you get the five assassinations associated with it, so it doesn't count) and they're quite easy once you figure out what you're doing)

He didn't know that Freelancer was a side mode since the UI is awful, give him a break.

Based on what? He only made the original post and says nothing about UI or side modes. He played through the entire campaign, or so he claims, but is too confused about Freelancer? Give ME a break. I stick by what I wrote.

honestly Alt+F4ing is probably the one saving grace for this mode, i mean im ok with losing gear if i truly messed up in preparation (like getting cornored in an attempt to snipe a target) but when the game decides that NPCs can just see through walls at random times or have 360 degree vision cones that force combat onto me thats when i say ♥♥♥♥ it and force close the game.

also doing chores and all that and not closing your game? thats insane I get back from doing that and im just as lost on what the hell i was doing before i left.

Freelance mode is boring. Each one is the same.

Level 1: Easy kill, fine.

Level 2: Normal kill, reasonably fun.

Level 3: Prowl around for ages around the whole map trying to figure out which of the 4 choices is the target. Boring, formulaic, lazy, unnecessary.
