Custom maps are becoming a thing
A user on hitman reddit posted a thread where he plays hitman in a mario custom map. Apparently he's been working on a tool which is now able to actually generate maps thanks to the overcome of major obstacles.

The map is made of custom assets and the AI is working too. In spite of greedy devs doing their best to lock away game content and refusing to release modding tools to make their game truly infinite, the community still manage to do it themselves.

This depends on the devs, but again, https://www.reddit.com/r/HiTMAN/comments/14s32f1/doom_47_map_tool_testing/ the reddit thread, which is literally the point of this thread, showed that this is possible. And it's a project in early development.

It would not be the first time modders "hack" or "reverse engineer" a game and make it moddable. Sure, it's not easy, it's really hard. That's the problem.
And when said user eventually hits a wall they will call it quits and move on. The most the community has done is keep WOA active with peacock project.
Yes that can happen. It can also happen that the company sues them. Let's hope the project continues I guess?

Wait what? Now you are shaming people for achievements? I can't tell if you are just anti mod for some reason, are an IoI employee that wants to shut down modding discussion, are pissed or you just want to flex on others?

Like, right now, I don't even know what you are on about man.

Its just running a server nothing illegal, you still need a legal copy of the game to use it.

You mean using AI, they use an in house engine, sure you can use meshes but what works for one engine can't be applied to another. I don't doubt people make good stuff but that's because the engine allows them to do that gamebryo isn't the glacer engine. If it were that simple people would have made maps for blood money years ago.
I am not saying the glacier engine is the same as the fallout engine. You are puttings words in my mouth.

I am saying that people work and reverse engineer the engine to make stuff like this. I also just literally said that it's really "hard". I never said it's simple, you are puttings words in my mouth.

Again, there is nothing for blood money because no one went through the effort of doing it. Now people are doing it for the first time, at least publicly speaking.
Your missing the point, gamebryo was always an easy engine to work with. People have been modding it since morrowind.

You'd be surprised. Riot Games sued multiple projects that restored old seasons of league. These projects basically made their own custom server from which the game could be hosted. All these projects got sued to hell and people were actually sent by riot to legally threaten the modders.

Of course that's a different company and the game is also much different. But I would not be too surprised if something like that happened to hitman to be honest. Though peacock has been safe all this time so I guess we are good for now.

With "easy" I suppose you mean ease of use and access. The gamebryo engine doesn't need to be reverse engineered or anything like that because the tools are there so that makes it easy yes.

Or maybe you mean that the engine itself is easy regardless of whether the tools are there or not?

Modding wasn't embraced by Bethesda until skyrim where they made tools available. That didn't stop people from modding older games because as you said its easy to work or around without said tools. Same goes for doom engine with gzdoom nothing official put people make some cool stuff like Hedon.

That's cool. I guess it also has to do with how popular the game is within the modding community.

Or how flexible the engine is, people are making mods for game like system shock 2 and whole maps for thief 1 and 2 and they aren't officially supported.

Meh. Custom maps aren't really an exciting prospect for this game because the vast majority of them will just be completely empty with nothing to do except running around. Creating a fully playable map like any of those created by IO is a huge task.

Just look at the modder that has been working on converting Hantu Port (one of the Sniper Assassin mode maps) into a sandbox location for a long time now. IO provided a fully made map, filled with NPCs and routes and its still taken a large amount of time to get it to where it is now (and it still isn't even released).

Current hype level for custom maps: 1/10

What were you expecting? Full fledged campaigns on day one? Give it time and in a few years when the game is dead we might see some real stuff coming. This is just a first step.

No. But the chances of people putting in the work to do it properly to make even caring about custom maps worth it is so small that the prospect isn't exciting at all. Most custom maps, if they even happen, are going to be absolutely terrible.

Hyped for sandbox Hantu Port though, because its being made by someone that puts a lot of effort into the stuff they do.

Now all we can hope for is Steam Workshop support? Custom maps and gamemodes? The epic ultimate social chameleon simulator? Although I highly doubt such an obtuse game company would have the intelligence to do that considering they somehow managed to ♥♥♥♥ up a singleplayer experience in a singleplayer game. I'm not sure exactly how the geniuses at IOI managed to require an internet subscription to unlock the basic feature of saving your progress, but they did it. Yay!

This company isn't interested in making the best of this game. They did it with 2016 to recover from absolution, then switched to doing less and less and less.

The whole internet crap and the other problems yes, they will never add workshop, that's a guarantee. They didn't even respect steam customer with the initial steam release.
The only hope is that this project grows to the point where we can actually make something ourselves.
