Game is too inconsistent and unfair to work in Freelancer (this is just one example but things like that happen fairly often)
Bought a Sieger sniper rifle on Paris, I distract a guard with the briefcase to poison him with an emetic syringe, except he doesn't react and just leaves with my briefcase instead or reaching the nearest bathroom...
The game being bugged and basically cheating at this point, I panic (literally spent all my money on this epic Sieger) and kill him in front of an other guard I didn't see. I instantly get spotted, lose my 5000 merces "silent assassin" objective and just altf4ed this ♥♥♥♥.
If you cant design a working, cohesive stealth system, dont make an entire game mode around the idea that you only have one shot ?! Playing in ironman would already be demanding enough in a game what works consistently and your game doesnt work consistently.
Its a shame really, this game mode could be really fun but you people just never fixed so many bugs that where already in Hitman season 2 by the way, like the "bump after frisk gets you spotted" bug, or poisons just not working reliably if the target is doing another action at the same time... Insane.
For now, Freelancer is just a frustrating and unfair experience, at least with the playstyle I like, stealth.
It works well enough for louder objectives (shotgun, explosive kills for example) but anything stealth related is just not worth the headache if trying to predict when and how the game is going to cheat its own established rules. Because its going to happen eventually.
EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Fix your game, please.

was the guard a frisking guard? I've noticed extremely similar behavior in New York with the frisking guard on the left from the main entrance. If you stand too close to him he'll try to script his "can't get through here" dialogue (even if you are behind him) and will stay stuck facing his current direction and ignore distractions and emetics until you get farther away. Guards defending a trespassing area are similar too.

I usually knock this guard out first on Freelancer so it has been incredibly noticeable and a little annoying to have to distract him from the opposite side of the staircase so he doesn't just stand there.

Maybe getting frisked first would fix it but this often isn't possible on Freelancer unless you drop everything.

But yeah, I agree that Freelancer cheats a lot. Not just in stealth but it cheats extremely hard in Combat. It will compromise you just to skip to combat, then when combat is over you'll have no one compromising you anymore, even if all you did was go wait in a bin. I've had many stealth runs get ruined because of this and because I didn't want to sit in the bin for like 10 minutes to keep """stealth""" up.

The guards clearly cheat your location too, if I sneak out of where they thought I was an go to a different bin they will magically start searching there, and they aimbot extremely hard when in combat and start combat way too fast. It is extremely cheaty and unfair.

Making the game cheat doesn't make it more difficult. It just makes it unfair. (Main reason why I and others don't like Hardcore mode too, its not hard its just unfair)

for 50 hrs after i bought the game till now, i can never complete a single campaign, and i can only complete 1 to 2 mission which meant defeated 1-2 syndicate before dianna told me" back to the drawing board 47"

Same here, hardcore is just accentuating everything I find annoying or unfair in Freelancer. And I do play the original game pretty much always in SASO or speed running challenges so its not as if I didnt like difficult stealth. I literally know this game by heart and its the IP Ive played the most throughout my life.
Its a shame because the concept of Freelancer is really great..

Ive also faced exactly this too often, guards skipping to combat, and guards in combat beelining towards your hidden location (like straight to in front of a locker in a room they never saw you in).

It is by far the part of the mode that needs urgent fixing. Hard guards is alright, but unreasonable and omniscent guards is not ok.

So I've seen what you've described in the Story mode. My observations, it seems to only effect emetic poisons that I know of. If an NPC is sees combat or is in combat, picking something up action, I also recall bringing a gun to a guards attention action. it seems to query the emetic poison behind those actions until the action is complete. I think it might be related to the animations.

I know this is an old post but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game piss's me off in trying to get lvl10 in professional difficulty for the sniper and I can't even do the Opportunities due to poor pathing cycles, I'll get to the end of the opportunity where I can kill the target and 1 guard has a bad path turns around just as I'm assassinating the target and then it's over I have to restart and re do the 20 minute prep I literally just did to get to the part where I'm supposed to get rewarded for my efforts
