I usually knock this guard out first on Freelancer so it has been incredibly noticeable and a little annoying to have to distract him from the opposite side of the staircase so he doesn't just stand there.
Maybe getting frisked first would fix it but this often isn't possible on Freelancer unless you drop everything.
But yeah, I agree that Freelancer cheats a lot. Not just in stealth but it cheats extremely hard in Combat. It will compromise you just to skip to combat, then when combat is over you'll have no one compromising you anymore, even if all you did was go wait in a bin. I've had many stealth runs get ruined because of this and because I didn't want to sit in the bin for like 10 minutes to keep """stealth""" up.
The guards clearly cheat your location too, if I sneak out of where they thought I was an go to a different bin they will magically start searching there, and they aimbot extremely hard when in combat and start combat way too fast. It is extremely cheaty and unfair.
Making the game cheat doesn't make it more difficult. It just makes it unfair. (Main reason why I and others don't like Hardcore mode too, its not hard its just unfair)
Its a shame because the concept of Freelancer is really great..
Ive also faced exactly this too often, guards skipping to combat, and guards in combat beelining towards your hidden location (like straight to in front of a locker in a room they never saw you in).
It is by far the part of the mode that needs urgent fixing. Hard guards is alright, but unreasonable and omniscent guards is not ok.
