Don't worry about it too much and just enjoy playing.
It's easier and quieter to snap the neck while already unconscious, but you can still snap the neck during a subdue from behind without pacifying, if you also have an objective to not pacify.
Or you could just read the objective and it wont' be confusing
Reminds me of "No Firearms" that used to allow the dart guns, it doesn't make sense with the name.
It says if a firearm is used it must be a headshot, it says nothing about requiring you to use a firearm for kills.
Just because it requires all of your firearm kills to be headshots, the description says nothing about all of your kills being required as firearms.
Your confusion comes from reading the headline without reading the explanation.
Dart guns in the real world aren't always firearms, it depends on what they are propelled with.
In game it could easily go either way depending on if the devs bother to define what the dart guns are using to propel the dart.
Dart guns that don't use cartridges/explosive/fire for propulsion aren't firearms, most are just air guns, some even use elastic banding and are more like cylinder slingshots functionally.
So yea, if the devs wanted to say the dartguns aren't firearms that would be fine. The dartguns in game aren't clearly identified by what propulsion system they use, but some do use .22 caliber cartridges, which would make them firearms. But then again the ones in game aren't loud enough and sound like air compressed blow chambers; which wouldn't be firearms.
It makes the objective harder to understand from a pure gameplay sense, and I feel the "Headshots Only" objective is in a similar camp. It would only be good for the player if the name or description was expanded to better fit what it wants.
The description says all shots taken must be headshots.
It doesn't say all kills must be with firearms.
It is clear.
That doesn't suggest anything different from what it already says.
