What counts as a "Katana": Payout Objective and Challenge discrepancy?

Is it just me or are the parameters that decide whether a weapon counts as a "katana" different for the Payout Objective and Challenge? I'm talking about Freelancer Mode.

I've killed targets with a tanto and the Payout Objective was completed, but the Challenge "Way Of The Samurai" did not go up

Way of the Samurai can be done only with the following:

• The Ornamental Katana (Epic Quality) (2 gear weight) (unlocks at lvl 15 mastery)
  
• Katana (Epic Quality) (2 gear weight)
  
• Masamune (Legendary Quality) (1 gear weight)
  
• The Makeshift Katana (Legendary Quality) (1 gear weight) (need Makeshift Pack DLC, then can be bought from suppliers)

I have had the counter increase for the Way of the Samurai challenge with any of the 4 in the list, but not the Tanto, as it is a knife, not a sword.

I don't about about that challenge but Tanto counts towards a "Katana" kill for the Payout objectives. That isn't a bug.

What counts as a Kataka? Ninja outfit, available in Freelancer (i don't boher to read everythigg that comes by) has a Katana, plz stfu, kthxbye.

Well, way to go IOI, no standardized loadouts for players who accept the reality, more goofy games like dress-up and Ken House. Apprently the katana is Not in the ninja loadout?

I think it's very much on purpose. Lots of the good gear is absent from its usual campaign location. IOI doesn't want to hand you a free Katana. It's still easy to get from Sgail, but you have to work for it

Imagine my shock when I re-discovered that the Elite Guards in Sgail carry the DAK X2 Covert Special (i.e. the best standard Machine Pistol in Freelancer) in Campaign mode while playing the recent ET (Miranda Jamison)

Well, yes in order to offer variety for old players, change-ups are common.

It's off-putting for an older gamer like me that played since 2016 (H1) and the Mission Stories were the Gimmick :/

I think the objective counts all japanese swords and even knives as a katana kill (I think even a kitchen knife will count for the objective) but the challenge needs one of the katanas (not sure if even the tanto counts for it)

As you can see by the prestige objective details, it says "other japanese swords and Knives" which implies that the Tanto, as a japanese knife, does count toward the prestige objective.

The challenge does not mention any kind of knife is allowed for it.
