Save Freelancer mission when going to Main Menu
I understand why there is no manual or auto-saving in the mode. It's a rogue-like mode and your choices should not be revertable and progress should not be reset.

That is fine.

However, as a gamer dad it is incredibly frustrating when I have to suddenly quit the game to lose all my progress and get penalized in my campaign, if not fail it outright.

Why can't the game just save the current mission progress when quiting by *properly* closing the game through the Esc-Menu?

Otherwise, I prefer the game mode over the basic mode because of so many reasons. Mainly because it does not penalize you for Killing non-targets. I get why the campaign does and that Silent Assassin is a cool playstyle - but don't show me all those cool weapons and explosives and then tell me not to use them.
That's why I loved the short time I had with Freelancer. It opens the game up in a way the campaign can't.

Hello if you want to exit without loosing progress (you will still have to restart your current map) you can close the game via tab manager or alt F4 multiple time quickly

I think a one time save system could work, like it deletes the save on load. People are using alt f4 or task manager anyway, I know I do when the game really feels like being unfair. So surely a save system like this could be considered.

It'd be useful in the safe house too. I hate having to force quit in the safe house to keep my inventory, exiting out normally will clear your inventory on load.

I was under the impression the Alt+F4 was fixed.
If its not, then its even worse:
The exploit still works, but people just wanting to pause have to eat the consequences?

I will alt+F4 next time to test it out. Thx for the tip

Roguelike games should have a save-and-quit function as a bare minimum QoL feature. It confers zero gameplay advantages while allowing people to pause the run if real-life suddenly gets in the way.

DONT DO THAT.
This no longer works.

Better quit a mission (if not boss mission or HM) by exiting the area, with 1-2 targets alive.
You are allowed to do that with a minor penalty. But don't quit too often or it will eventualy fail the campaign.

Better quit a mission (if not boss mission or HM) with 1-2 targets alive. You are allowed to do this 2 times per campaign part.
I used a program called SuperF4, which exists only as an icon in the system tray (looks like a popular turtle antagonist), and allows you to end task for the current program in focus simply by pressing ctrl+alt+f4.

alt f4 was patched, it now triggers a saving screen unless you spam alt f4, and even then it can still save. Use task manager to force close it, don't pause before alt tabbing.

Disconnect your internet. If you're on wifi, disconnect from the network from the desktop tray. If you have a wire, pull it out

The game will detect you've gone offline and give you the option to retry connecting or go offline i.e. main menu. Go offline, and exit. The next time you'll be back in your safehouse as if you never started the mission. They've patched Alt+F4, but can't account for your internet going out

Well, it's better that counting it as a loss, but I just want to save my place for later in the mission. It's not my goal to cheat or circumvent the safeguards.

But y'all have some harsh words for this mode, huh? I actually like how punishing it is.
It allows me to just go berserk if I'm made to try and save a run, not hit Load everytime I make a small mistake

Exactly, how was this not implemented in the first place?

I get what your saying, I enjoy the mode being hard and punishing as well. But when I'm doing a Silent Assassin run and get totally compromised through a wall I'm going to consider that extremely unfair and start over. The game being hard / punishing and the game straight up cheating is two different things.

If I mess up, that's fine and good, go with the flow of it.

Ofc that sucks when the game glitches out and ruins your fun.
But I just take it as it is. I start almost every run with the goal to be SA, but if it fails (and it usually does without the ability to save/load) then I just have to adapt and make the best of it. That's what I like about the mode.

Anyway
@Devs please allow us to save a mission upon quitting to menu. Kthxbye
