What happens if I redeem a hitman 3 steam key?
I own hitman 1 and 2. My friend has a hitman 3 steam key from before world of assassinations. If I were to buy this key from him, would I gain access to world of assassination and what content would I be missing?

How does "Hitman 3" fit into "World of Assassination"?

Good question.

In theory if you had just Hitman 3 before january 26 you get all maps except for the DLC. So everything in Hitman 1, 2 and 3.

I assume you wouldn't have DLC like New-York or Maldives map, additional contract on already existing map, like Patient Zero DLC, or the 7 deadly sins DLC.

If you look under the 1659040 appid, you can see World of Assassinations (ID 672746) is listed alongside "Hitman 3 Standard Edition" (672744) and "Hitman 3 Deluxe Edition" (672745).

So they didn't really just rename it, they created a new edition of the game. As said in my the OP, the concern was about how redeeming "Hitman 3" would be reflected content wise.

Hitman 3 became WOA. WOA has all the map from Hitman 1, 2 and 3.

If you just owned Hitman 3 before the change, you would get all the map from the first 2 game for free. It's not the case for people owning hitman 1 or 2 or both, they get nothing after the change.

Since you got a key from before the change, i would assume you'll get WOA, therefore everything from Hitman 1, 2 and 3. Except the DLC. That's just a guess tho, better contact the company somehow if you want to be sure.

Yes more likely you'll get the WoA if you activate the Hitman 3 Standard key.
This is what included - see 'apps in this package':

Hitman 3 is no longer “Hitman 3” IOI has transformed the game into “Hitman: World of Assassination” which contains Hitman 1, Hitman 2 and Hitman 3. So they key that your friend has is no longer for “Hitman 3” it is called “Hitman: World of Assassination”.

So if I paid for H1 and H2 already I can pay $70 for H3 and get less new stuff than a guy who just buys H3, gotcha. What a steal! Really makes me want to part with my money.

Oh wait, not really. I will just wait until they have a discount for people who already own H1 and H2.

Slightly related question, but has the name of the game in your library changed for any of you? Is it supposed to? For me it's still HITMAN 3. I own all Hitman content on Steam.

You could have looked a little closer. That app Id (672746) isn't for a game, it's for a package that happens to contain a game. The game itself is still Hitman 3 with new branding, new advertising and now only sold in a package containing some of its DLC (and none of it is even new DLC, it's all DLC that were options since launch)

You think that's a new game? Nope, it's still just Hitman 3, now bundled with DLC in a new package and every package/bundle has its own app Id on steam.

In the future I will try to just know everything so that I don't burden you any further.
Ik this thread is really old
But does that mean that if buy a hitman 3 key, it will basically just be world of assassinations, from what I gathered, it seems so.
Cause that would be a great way to save some money by buying a hitman 3 key lol.
