Wounds are permanent?
After a char gets downed, it needs to be healed in the chapel. So far so good.
But they will still carry a wound, even after beeing rehabilitated?

So the next time they will get a wound they will die, permanent?

Found the answer by starting a new game. Depending on the difficulty 1 to 3 wounds and then your char is gone forever.

I dont like those mechanics. I would like to get a 2 round window to do some "first aid".

Dont forget that perma-wounds can be cleansed by a stay in the chapel.

Unfortunately, no, the wounds don't go away after the time in the chapel. Chapel just makes it so you can field the soldier again. The wounds are still there.

This is wrong. Wounds stay no matter what. You can see the 'red slash' on their portrait showing how many times they were wounded.

I guess I misread that part. So far I have only had one guy wounded and had just put them in the chapel. Thanks for correcting me.

Honestly this mechanic is stupid as hell. I don´t have a problem with permadeath if I get the opportunity to prevend it. Either explore smth or developing medicine or smth like this. But the current status is, easy mode - 3 wounds which can´t be healed - permadeath.

So I grind and level up my soldiers, just to replace them after a certain time and start the grinding for him or her again? And there is nothing I can do against it?

No way devs... Add an exploration or make it possible for gold or ressources that wounds are healed overtime but at the moment, this will be not excepted by the majority of the players!

I stop playing now until this issue is discussed...

This mechanic would be fine if the battles weren't so RNG and just about impossible not to take damage no matter how safe and tactical you try to play. There are too many things that can damage your entire party in every battle. And when your people you have been trying to level up and get attached to die because of situations outside of you hands, that is not fun. So I agree there should be a way to heal wounds. Make it expensive if you must otherwise re-balance the battles.

You can heal using balms and the alchemist potion. Do it before finishing the mission and it will count as if you take no damage. Balms for everyone, they are not one-use despite being called consumables. They are only limited on the mission but can be reused after then.

So I read this thread before playing and had concerns. Many of you arent wrong, but I do think this issue needs to be put into perspective. Your soldiers are recruited for relatively small amounts of gold. And while the bond we have with them is through the time training them rather than the resources spent, I think thats the point. These soldiers are expendable...if you are that type of commander. Or you can love them and take really great care of them.

Still though... I agree a exploration/mission type mechanic where we can use these wounded soldiers for something would be good. That way having SOME of our time investment paid off through bonuses and buffs on said missions doesnt feel like such a "eff you" bummer. I also wouldnt hate the idea of taking away wounds and all but I think the mechanics annoyances and downsides are every much intentional. With the idea being the game's designers want you to care about your soldiers... or deal with the consequences of having your forces be expendable.

I think simply providing a good healthcare program should be the difference between caring about your employees or not. You put in the time/money to heal them or you don't because you want those resources elsewhere.

Especially since they didn't give you the ability to not treat them as expendable when getting those wounds. (i.e. carrying them to the exit point) XCom handled this mechanic better.

Regardless I think permadeath should be optional. At least on lower difficulties. Or add a way to permanently remove wounds.

I like this mechanic. It makes it a bit more realistic, because some grave wounds, even healed, have a permanent effect. I agree that for some players that want a softer challenge it could be removed via a game option.

Thank you for this valuable piece of info! I was saving my consumables for harder encounters, thinking that they're single-use items. This really should have been explained in the game itself, and not left to the players to figure out.

The mechanic is okay, actually even on hard the player has to really play wrongly and be unlucky to lose a guy. And if really it is a hecatomb, you have the training in the casern that allow you to bypass the grind.

That being said, it could be improved. I would love to see diverse injuries with different effect on the character for example.

It would be nice to have a chance for them to go into a "bleeding out" stage, similar to XCOM, but as it stands I think this system is much more forgiving than what I'm used to seeing in these kinds of games where when a character goes down it's instant permadeath.

In fact, the loading screen says they are one used only which is a lie lol
