Which means you can grind as long as you want. Its listed on each mission.
Too early for me to comment on strategy depth yet.
Get enough resources to research inventory and unlock consumables. Hire more soldiers, Keep training them to the reqd level for the current act.
Then upgrade buildings so they can research and produce better inv and consumables. + make all buildings more efficient.
When all buildings are at the next level they upgrade the castle which gives better bonuses like +1 soldier in your parties.
And how exactly you can actually loose?
Lose in what sense?
Fail the main story missions I guess. Which is likely game over with ironman mode saving enabled. Otherwise you get a chance to replay. You can fail missions and lose soldier (eventually). So I guess its quite forgiving in that sense.
