Really depends on your goals. If you're seeking inspiration, check out the Steam achievements or look at the 2nd tab of the in-game stats page to see what's required for 100% completion. Looking at the big picture, there's a lot of tasks that require attention. Think about the things that feel like they'll take the most time or effort to complete (i.e., maxing pets, leveling certain prestige skills) and prioritize any upgrades that will simplify or ease those processes.
Wouldn't hurt to push your max waves to try and earn enough SP for a specific upgrade milestone. Doesn't take that long, and the NM cost to jump back to wave 1 and go back to grinding is nominal. The skill upgrade +1 NM from Drones seems like a decent target; any further (like the -1 shard for SSP) would be awesome but maybe lofty at this stage. Haven't tried pushing since the battle/click mechanics changed so I don't know if it got easier or harder to push, but if you can finish up through wave 200 it'd be a nice accomplishment.
I've gotten enough SP to purchase up through the +1 NM from Loot Drones upgrade; in combination with the NM unlock called Loot Enhancer for another +1 NM, the drones have become the best source for it. Checking into the game every five minutes over a prolonged period demands some dedication, but it adds up. If you're taking the game seriously, it's not like there aren't a bunch of other tasks that must be performed manually and regularly, anyway (he says a little scornfully).
If time and life prevents you from regular check-ins, you can try to set up a mouse macro to collect the drones. Only takes two mouse moves and clicks. I don't do it myself since I'm kinda hipster with idlers / clickers and consider myself more of a "purist" (shoot me), but it wouldn't be that hard to do.
And if you haven't checked out the active codes for free NM, look at the Steam guides. They won't change your life, but no reason to say no to free currency.
2x task rewards is ... *does math* FORTY FIVE ssp away.. Might have to set up that mouse macro... :-/
Direwolf claw combined with other offensive items and full buffs can push you past 2 super bosses with active clicking the crosshairs for more dps. If you got multiple claws you can propably push past 5 but prepare to prestige strength or wave reset back to 1 since the monsters will be too tough without your buffs.
Focus on challanges and tasks to unlock advanced versions. You should also have enought mana items (and reset spell) to start powerleveling casting (and frog) and start farming higher stages to max out combat prestige and unlock bounties.
You get alot of NM from daily tasks and loot drones (if you get upgrades from NM shop and skilltree). Tasks and catching creatures (dunno if you need expanded drop table challange) gives also some NM.
