Report a translation problem
Ignore the comments about translation as its just the usual suspects making a mountain out of a mole hill, the translations no better or worse than other JRPG's.
If you care about getting a decent translation, this game isn't for you, unless you're willing to use mods to fix it. There are multiple such modding projects currently in varying stages of development, but they range from simple individual fixes to partial retranslations from scratch which will take a while to be completed.
If you don't mind the translation, then the game is a decent JRPG that harkens back to some of the more difficult classics, where item inventories are limited and magic is expensive.
Its not as dark as Suikoden 2, and is frequently said to be closer to Suikoden 1 in tone, even in JP.
As others have said ignore the translation drama, it was entirely stirred up by youtube grifters for clicks on their videos.
I'd ignore the opinions on the steam forums and look at the reviews.
There's also a good bit of minigame fluff in there, if I'm keeping it honest. Probably another 7-10 hours of playing a card battle game (that I actually kind of liked), doing the mostly brain dead cooking game (while listening to a podcast), and the dopey Beyblade minigame (while listening to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SLAYER)
Ignore translation warriors........
Versus the people urging you to just buy the game and blanket insulting others bringing up localization issues that you as a customer have a right to be informed about. Then the decision will become clear.
