i will be honest, if you want to argue in good faith you should
1. stop trivializing peoples complaints, "chud" should have never made it in the script, stop gaslighting people into accepting this. explain exactly why this word is in the script. stop downplaying it and explain.
2. stop projecting your own racism onto others
ty
Because the word in its meaning before all the stupid online war happened fits the context in which it's used.
And I'd wager if no one ever brought it up, 97% of people who played the game (at least) would never see it, because
1) You need to recruit an optional character to see it
2) You need to have a specific optional character with you at that time
3) The game still needs to randomly choose her to say something there out of the like four party members that can say something
Yet people are obsessed with this one use of a single word in a very obscure spot as if it somehow ruins the entire game. Really insane.
It's just a derogatory term that can be interchanged with bonehead, idiot, moron, doofus, etc. Iirc the JP line is the same. She just says Bakayarou or something. The intentionality is not changed.
It's also an optional line in an optional scene. 90%++ players won't even see it, and would never know they missed it.
It fits the personality of the character who says it, and the character she's calling a chud fits the description. He's a joke character.
The dub actually made him sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger. This change is more liberal and more obvious than this optional micro-line.
You've been gaslit into thinking it matters because losers on Twitter turned it into their outragebait of the week.
OP couldn't point out where the "woke ideological slop" is in this game if someone paid him. You've been lied to and you demand people who actually played the game explain that to you. It's obnoxious.
This is like calling Missingno woke. Literally datamining to feel mad at something.
The fact ya'll don't want to accept it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Just admit it, you want to be mad, and you want to feel persecuted.

- then why not just use bonehead, idiot, moron, doofus etc. whatever? that doesn't explain why "chud" was chosen, it just relates to what it means, according to you, because to most other people who are remotely familiar with online discourse it means something very different. i looked up "bakayarou" and it means "you idiot", how do you get chud from that? have you ever heard that word ever used before in a video game? i haven't. what an odd choice wouldn't you say?
- optional doesn't matter, that is not what is being called into question
- that doesn't explain why "chud" was used
- doesn't explain why "chud" was used
- i dont use twitter and i do not follow anti-woke grifters
Anything else man? This is really fun dismantling weak and dishonest arguments :)
Why ever use synonyms? Because variety makes things more interesting.
People keep thinking about how the word 'shoves an agenda' or whatever but from what I can tell the regular usage of the word that people are having a problem with didn';t even come above until well into this game's development. It's certainly possible that this particular line was written before it was even a really known thing.
Looking at Urban Dictionary, one definition is "A unattractive person whose defining characteristic of their personality is their egotism. " which absolutely describes the character in question as he's being presented.
The original definition for Chud was 'A gross, physically unappealing person', which is consistent with how Milana uses it in the scene. It didn't even gain any sort of a political usage until the game was already well into development, and was originally an anti-left insult before shifting usage into being more anti-right. This definition and usage is consistent with what we actually see in game. Its usage as an anti-right term is not even remotely consistent with the ingame usage, so the insistence that it's being usage as such is laughable.
But, as always, these facts will be largely ignored and discarded, because even if this narrative that it was some sort of an anti-right slur isn't consistent with reality, pearls must be clutched. I mean, Mareus isn't even a disliked character, one would think if there was the intent to slip an anti-right slur in, it would have been used against a character that's actually villainous in literally any way instead of a character that's incredibly kind hearted and objectively an ally.

To help inform people who might not be aware what the SLUR/INSULT 'Chud' is for feedback to the Developers/Publishers:

"New Word Suggestion
1. (noun, derogatory) a derogatory term use to describe a person on the right spectrum of politics (right-winger) "
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/chud
"(chiefly US, Internet slang, sometimes derogatory) A person who is on the political right or who holds socio-political views seen as reactionary.
Some chud on Twitter said The Wall Street Journal was liberal propaganda. (pejorative)
Unlike all those cuckservatives in Congress, this guy's a true chud. (positive)"
"Usage notes
(person on political right): Originally a pejorative"
https://www.reddit.com/r/saltierthankrayt/comments/197pnpo/can_someone_please_define_what_chud_actually_means/
"A derogatory term for unpleasant right-wingers."
edit: Proof the localisers knew that Chud was a political insult and used it in that exact fashion:

Though now that you repost it again, it does give me a chance to check something else. The dates. Again, 'chud's usage as an anti-right thing is very new, and I notice all the posts you're citing in that image are from March of 2023, which is consistent with about the time it started gaining traction as an anti-right thing.
However, per Murayama-san's discord Q&A in February of 2023, the entire English localisation had already been completed as of that date, lending credibility to the idea that this was simply an obscure word that was used in accordance with its existing definition that gained a secondary meaning well after the line had already been written.
EDIT: Also, I'm really amused by the fact that someone's using reddit, wiktionary and collins as sources here and demanding they be taken very seriously when the same person has repeatedly attacked other people for using similar sources, demanding that they're not reliable sources. The hypocrisy is fascinating.
Whatever, I'm done here, there is simply no way for them to be honest, might as well argue with a wall, either way I'm not giving this trash my sale if it requires a never ending sea of shills to justify bad localization choices. Political or not, its simply bad.
