They don't hit as hard as melee and tend to be weaker defensively as well. The idea being you can keep them in the back row for better cover but that's not really helpful in ECHH. Back row takes plenty of damage still.
Kuroto's a strong bulky unit throughout the game and gets Warrior's Path/Pinnacle access like Alwe and Aoi (late bloomer), while Lakian has his elemental enchant damage.
If you meant anyone else with a physical Long range or Throw damage, then Lam, Leene, Nil (late bloomer), Reid (late bloomer), and Aleior all get Warrior's Path/Pinnacle access.
Hakugin (early bloomer) and Jorhan (late bloomer) are okay, but Hildi and Pohl are mediocre.
The games balance and game play is most enjoyable with most or all difficulty parameters on.
I beat the game with maxed out difficulty. Mages are not garbo, in fact its close to impossible to complete the game without them as they are the only means of healing effectively in combat. Archers are relatively weak as they die pretty easily that is true. Now if they have high MP, they are a bit more viable.
fire magic and dark magic are Ok, but they need seriously good mage to be viable.
pick random character that seem to have more int than stre, get 200 int and see garbo damage, pick random strenght characters, build strenght to 300 see insane damage... another big difference is offcouse taking damage, mages die 1 shot, while pretty much all melee characters are immortal in combat..
game has many melee characters, and pretty much all of them perform way way way way better than 99% mages that you have
most archers are bad aswell.. looking at wyler and marin for example.. they have broken skills that dosnt work like they should and if they do work they are way too weak, generally all long range characters = mages, i avoid using them as much as possible, fill my front lines with S and back lines with M, full strenght focus basic attack party that cannot die ftw
the only time i do use mages are when im farming evryone to equal level, same time i do sometimes test damage differences and evrytime i do it, i feel disapointed and start raging how bad the balance is xD
and yes you can kill even bosses with wind magic, using 100 times wind magic kills boss same as doing 10-15 times fire magic, or 1-2 basic attacks.. im not joking strenght build are OP and bosses have sometimes too small hp bar on middle game
never used archer because why would i, found best mage and melee build by myself. and archer tend to have trash stats (not enough str to replace a M char and not enough int to replace a mage)
Momo is overpowered. He's basically a broken character. Isha, Milana and Markus make up the rest of the good mages. Mellore gets good after like level 60.
Then there's like 15 viable, strong Melee fighters. It's just kind of not balanced well.
- high MP costs for spells and you don't become able to purchase MP recovery items until the halfway point (post-Nowa/Seign route split, Lv. 3 HQ with Dappled Forest's Excellent Lacquer)
- Lv. I-III spells do fixed 18 ~ 80 damage, you also don't get Lv. IV-V spells that do scale off MGC until the halfway point (during and after Nowa/Seign route split, buy from Twinhorne West) that are admittedly very strong multipliers with the right affinities or exploited weaknesses, or Lv. V Fire for AoE clearing besides Lilwn, Zabi, Hildi, and Marisa due to their negative Fire affinities
- the best stated mage before Isha & Momo is Falward because Francesca, Mellore, Marin, Milana, Leon are all late bloomers (Lv. 41+ stat growth), while Gieran (early bloomer, Lv. 1-40), Hildi, Melridge, Zabi, Marisa, Carrie, Perrielle, Prunella, Aleior, and Lilwn are mediocre
- Dijkstra's War Cry is a +50% ATK buff that overrides the +20% ATK buff, combined with Rune of the Warrior's Path & Rune of the Warrior's Pinnacle allows many physical fighters besides Iugo to reach high damage: Leene, Nowa, Elektra, Mio / Garoo, Lam, Nil / Chandra, Yume, especially if you NG+ to allow Nowa/Elektra to equip both simultaneously and 4 copies of Warrior's Path on Leene, while her Full Force Clacker can be spammed for a full clear AoE since it uses SP than MP for Endless Mode
- even at Lv. 99 with Mage's Path & Mage's Pinnacle, only Momo can equip both while Isha/Markus/Marisa/Aleior can equip one to lesser effect. Aleior and Lakian can do some impressive elemental enchanted physical damage, but that's still a turn of setup + MP spent
You need to be 30+ hours in for Isha and Momo to pull their weight offensively, while endgame you're best off running Leene + Nowa + Elektra/Mio in your front row with Dijkstra, Momo, and Isha in your back.Where do you find elemental affinities? I have gone through most of the game and must have missed this completely.
It's not in game for some silly reason. Probably because it doesn't actually affect all spells...

Much obliged friend. I couldn't find it anywhere in game. Knowing that it just isn't in there makes me feel a bit better about not being aware of it. Have some points.
