any time a sprite runs other than the main character
they only designed the main character to have a running animation

so in cut scenes they constantly are just fast forwarding the walking animation for everyone and it looks sooooooooo silly its insane

it just blows my mind a game with a decent budget couldnt take the time to make better animations other then cartoonishly fast forwarding

I actually wonder if they made the sprites too complex for their apparently development budget.

Interestingly, it's the same thing they did in Suikoden 1 and 2. There are just so many unique character sprites that pretty much only the primary protagonist got a running sprite. Everybody else just got their walking sprites sped up.

Kinda worked alright back then. Maybe the whole 2.5D thing is what makes it feel so weird, I don't know.

Yeah but the main character didn't have a detailed running animation in the old games. I think that's where the disconnect comes from.

Yeah but... animating a new sprite is RPG Maker 2000 stuff. It's not something that should need a "budget". I've seen my 13 year old animate doodles with a couple of free hours on a phone app.

No, they did, as did a few more major supporting characters, like Nanami. But any characters outside a very small core just got standard walking and battle animations. Spriters-resource.com has the full sprite sheets.
Oh it's been decades since I played them so I didn't remember that. Interesting.
id also argue that it was to a lesser degree then this Alvin and the chipmunk ♥♥♥♥ they got working on eyudian chronicles

I don't know if it was to a lesser degree, but it definitely stands out more here. I think it's a combo of the 2.5D graphics and the fact that Suikoden 1/2 only had three frames in their walk cycles, but EC:HH has, like, 6 or 7 or something. Weirdly, the addition of more animation makes the animation that's not there way more obvious.
The much larger sprites also really make it more obvious.
