Report a translation problem
What I don't like is changing characterization of certain characters, and changing the overall tone of the game to be silly and jokey instead of serious. Changing a few lines here and there to read better is fine, but altering larger aspects of the story for no good reason is extremely annoying.
The localizers have butchered the game by infusing the game dialogues with modern day internet meme lingo, that has no place in the setting of the game and it breaks any and all immersion that there is to be found.
But most importantly it changes the personalities of quite a few of the characters in game, giving them a 180 change from how their characters are supposed to be portrayed in the original Japanese version.
I and many other people bought the game so they can enjoy it as it was mean to be played by the original authors, including obviously the late Yoshitaka Murayama's story and righting, his FINAL story. And not a butchered script brought along by some talentless localizers who fancy themselves to be writers.
All they had to do was localize the game's dialogues 1:1 or as close to that as possible ,and in the rare cases where the translation doesn't "pan out" due to Japanese idioms and sayings that simply don't make sense in english, then and ONLY then should they try to replace it with a similar English idiom or saying, instead they took it upon themselves to arbitrarily and needlessly twist 50-70% of the dialogues because they could.

How did you learn about this? Because whoever told you, either had a vested interest in telling you lies, or the person themself has been fed lies. Because the translation was signed off. Read more here, the receipt is on the discord.

If you really want to use art as an example, go with one that needs to be "localized". Like the box art that Suikoden I had for western audience vs the Japanese box art. They changed it because they thought that's the type of thing that the west would pick up to increase sales at the time.
Localization takes into account more than translation, and a lot of the 1:1 translation will feel dry and boring (at least to me). Maybe the localizers were given a snippet of the overall vibe each character would have. Even without the localization, you'll get to notice backer stuff that might not even "fit", even I think Code L/Stadler look from a different time. There are cringey parts and jokey, non-serious parts as with all Suikoden but the overall story and experience feels largely the same even with those differences.
Looks like there are already people modding and using AI anyway. If you wanted something official, it might not happen for a while due to budget constraints, the amount of work/time involved, etc.
IIRC the issue is that every dish counts as an appetizer, and you docked points for putting a main dish or dessert type in those slots (both the player and the opponent).
Someone showed an example of the English vs the DeepL version of the line.
DeepL: "Ha ha! This is the super secret weapon! prepare yourself!"
English in game: "Gah ha ha! Meet our super secret weapon! It's gonna squash you fools flatter than a Grandma's behind!"
I, for one, prefer the English line. It has actual personality to it. Hell even just the subtle difference between "Ha ha!" and "Gah ha ha!" makes a difference. Or "Meet our" vs "This is"....it gives it flavor, rather than stiled roboticness.
Now, the "Grandma's behind" part.....ok, I can see why people might not like that. But it still is more adding to it than actually changing any sort of meaning like people are claiming.
Yeah, it's weird how any one who's played even a few JRPGs thinks that somehow THIS game is overly comedic....because of the localization?. For frick's sake, at one point Lian has those swirly cartoon running legs like i the old Hanna Barbara cartoons. They sure as hell didn't add those in just for the English version.
Or maybe for something more people have seen, Lian's special ability, which launches enemies like in a shonen anime. Not to mention, game has magical girls, shark people who live in the desert, a girl who goes around with giant fake robot arms, another girl who looks like discount Raven with spirit balls following her, a SIX YEAR OLD who rides on top of a....giant creature....who's a front-liner, And then one scene where you're saved by a giant fricken tree.
Or how about a knock off Pokemon sidequest, cooking battles...
This game is so packed full of non-serious stuff. The localization didn't change the tone of the game one bit.
Forget the poor translation job... They just haphazardly give any voice to anyone they want. You think the Empire is a thinly veiled stand in for the British Empire reinforced by the fact that, at first, they all speak in a British Accent?
OHH you poor summer child! Didn't you know? China is also Britain!
Yeah... Coming up with over 120 voices is hard... but why add so much inconsistency? This is a world trotting adventure and your intentionally are making it impossible to get invested. I am not even expecting Hetalia levels of "Every accent is accurate to the region they represent", just don't give Fantasy China a British accent!
