Not a Suikoden successor in the slightest.
The marketing for this game and journalists are ingenuine.

I was excited for this but after watching the videos and listening to the voice overs this is nothing like the masterpieces that suikoden I and II were.

It's silly, childish, the VA is annoying, it's much more light hearted and seems like it was made for children. The Suikoden franchise dabbled a little bit in quirky humor here and there but 90% of the time it took itself seriously and got into some dark topics especially for the time peroiod. The music was also fantastic.

Ive also been seeing word about the english translation and how its been altered to suit western politics/agendas similar to AAA titles, disney, netflix, Industry pop music, etc. which is literally disgusting. Suikoden was a piece of art. This is an altered childrens story under the guise of a successor.

I had hopes as Suikoden 1 and 2 were 2 of my favorite rpgs growing up.

Don't you mean 'i didn't get the same feeling BAHAHA'

The game is being sabotaged by a localisation no-one asked for that has nothing to do with the original Japanese script

People paid for Suikoden successor, not Suikoden successor as told to you by fan-fiction of a localiser trying to get writing credits to get into Marvel Universe movies

Hopefully you only be one of the few vocal minority complaining about the localization. I expect that there will be more coming out of the woodwork seeing as they didn't get the game they wanted either.

You would think by now most people learn the more you make a game for a certain person or type of people the game has a 99% chance of failure from the get go. It requires big money to make games nowadays and there is no way game developers can only count on *the few who want it their way only*.

If you didn't see this coming when they started the Kickstarter campaign for it you couldn't be more ignorant. Actually all you are doing is proving that you are nothing more than the picture of todays gamer and that isn't a good thing for the gaming community as a whole.
From the samples I'd seen I assume the original script is more classic Suiko as the abomination we've got. Some lines in the loca are really bonkers.

I'm playing in french an while the localization may be a bit better, I'm still not convinced by it... Interactions between the members of the group feels...weird and with bad joking. Example of Liam saying "C'est une aventure à la Nowa (noix)" Which means like it's a nut adventure when preparing to go to MC village. Is Nowa a victim?

I may still continue playing a bit to see if things are getting better in overall but I don't have a lot of faith.

Being excited for it since it was initially announced but then seeing the massive influx of questionable news since yesterday about it made me make the friend who gifted it for me as preorder refund it. I might buy it at a later point but hearing all these things about what I expected to be a suikoiden successor is very heartbreaking.

*looks at original physical copy of Suikoden 1 from PSX*

'today's gamer' = modern audience right?

There is no modern audience.

It's a made up term to try and hide behind why things are being changed artificially

'it's what modern audiences want!' sounds a lot like 'it's what plants crave' from Idiocracy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAqIJZeeXEc

games changed artificially sell poorly and studios get shut down for it

Look at Forspoken, look at Saints Row Reboot, Look at how poorly Suicide Squad : Killed the franchise is going (Batman games from 12 years ago have more players in it)

If you care about the games industry you want more games like Witcher 3 (polish to english localised, no-one had issue it was done well and professionally) that sold over 50 million copies

If you don't care... eh, don't worry, watch the franchises you like go bust as they get sabotaged by localisation and ESG/BRIDGE

You're a far bigger example of 'todays gamer' when you're willing to accept slop localization and believe every game should cater to everyone instead of it being ok for a game to have a niche audience. Dunno why you're shilling so hard unless you're a plant that's being paid.

The problem I have is that every SINGLE aspect of this game is "Suikoden did it better"

Story? Suikoden did it better
Localization? Suikoden did it better
Combat? Suikoden did it better
Cooking Battles? Suikoden did it better
Warfare? Suikoden did it better
Duels? Suikoden did it better
Runes? Suikoden did it better
Worldbuilding? Suikoden did it better
Villains? Suikoden did it better

I don't hate the game I really don't... but... If this was called Suikoden 6... it would be considered the most mid suikoden of them all.

There is literally only one well thought out thing in this game that I don't consider to be an inferior copy.
WarBaby2 Apr 22, 2024 @ 3:28pm
To be fair, the different Suikoden titles had very different overall quality... I mean, is EC better then Sui 2,3 or 5? No... but it's more or less on par with 1 (yes, worse story and characters, but better graphics and overall gameplay) and quite a bit better then 4, Tactics, TIerkreis and "that Last One"...

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I actually love this game. Not only is it like Suikoden, you could definitely say it's a spiritual successor, and it has plenty of the same elements.
Recruit a bunch of heroes?
Build a castle/base?
The characters have personality and depth?
The art style is similar!
War battles!?
1v1 dueling!?

There is a movement to derail this game. This game is FANTASTIC. It's not perfect, but if a game like Suikoden were to be released today, in 2024, people would CRUSH it into the ground.

Seriously people. Get over yourselves. The only people stopping you from enjoying this game, is you. And if you cant get past that, well, go play Suikoden 1 and 2 again for the billionth time.

I, for one, am extremely happy to have REFRESHING Suikoden-like content.

I am hoping they continue this trend, I'd love to see a sequel.

None of what you mentioned was about the 'stellar' localisation.

Did you notice that?

You mentioned -everything- except it

So what you like about the game has nothing to do with the topic being discussed here

We are on the side of the Developers btw, we want their vision to reach all audiences, not be subverted by 3rd party localisers who destroy their lifes work for 'fun' and 'rub a dub dub'

You need to see the critque of 3rd parties as being needed if you ever want to see more sequels of the game you and I both enjoy

Aye, as I stated in an other thread: Just imagine the word-of-mouth from all the people who are tired by this kind of localization if the devs really announce a faithful relocalization. The sells on a sequel with proper translation would explode.

It's exactly why Stellar Blade is #1 pre-orders on PS5 and will be the highest selling game on PS5 in 2024

People want an authentic fantasy experience without real world chains holding it back from 3rd parties who claim to know better than both the developers and the customers

Not to be the bearer of bad news but...

in b4 gamers find something to rag on Stellar Blade for...

people have an outrageous need to be outraged these days....
