Report a translation problem
Example:
(Background: I'm dutch)
In the powerpuff girls there is a scene where all the bad guys are having a party and the powerpuff girls drop in....this prompts Mojo-Jojo to utter "Let's blow this joint" (Laten we wegwezen)
Now this translates back to Dutch as "Let's get out of here"
Instead they translated it as "Let's smoke this blunt" (Laten we deze joint oproken)
This is a show for pre-teens mind you and I watched it back in the day as a pre-teen... I'm 40 now...so we're talking over 20 years ago
Quit getting your panties in a bunch...sure there's people who do it for malicious reasons as well but don't act like it's the crisis of the century
To me thats the whole point of localization, to make it work in a different language format, if you go word by word it just comes out awkward and dry imo. Not to mention jokes, puns and nuance's are going to be lost either way so might as well.... embrace the new format, and localize it as oppose to just translating it.
I mean w/e everybody has their own tastes I guess. But the only real way to get an authentic experience to the word is to learn Japanese.
That's just a poor argument, the localizers in this case didn't "just add" some words, they have altered the personalities of a few in game characters.
For instance Lian in the Japanese VA version is just an energetic girl, that's a little bit too hang up with being a "senpai" even though she is not cut out for it, in the English version they made her into the party's clown and a mean spirited clown at that.
Garr is supposed to be the semi-no nonsense warrior/leader who tries to remain serious. In the English version he forgoes his Japanese character just to poke fun at Nowa.
And no, localizers are supposed to localize as close to the original as humanly possible, not embellish and rewrite the story and characters as they see fit.
It's like you have some art restoration expert, decide that the Picaso he was given to restore was too absurd and the people on it were too out of proportion, so he altered it so it would make sense to him.

My argument? You're responding like I'm dictating or something. I don't know how many times I made it clear it was just my opinion and others have different ones. "To me..." "In my opinion" "Everybody has their own tastes."
Localization is a different word from translate for a reason though. I typed 'define localization vs translation' into google and this is what I got:
"At its core, translation transforms text, while localization transforms the entire product or content from one language to another. The limits of localization are endless, and it extends far beyond translation.'
Look I'm sure you could find a definition more in line with your tastes but.... have you ever play Lunar for the psx? How far did that localization stray from the Japanese? It took standard jrpg language and gave it amazing personality. And maybe even went a little too far sometimes, but working designs did a great job. I thought so anyway, so did many others. And it could not be further from your:

Maybe in spirit, but its clearly not a hard a fast rule. So what it is then that makes a good conversion? Its subjective. You chocolate, I like vanilla. That kind of thing.
Even when I'm learning the language, that doesn't excuse localizers for altering the works of the original writers.
