Recruitment Thread - POSSIBLE SPOILERS
Edit: This is now an archived reference, I will no longer be updating it - but I did get about 1/2 of all (120) recruitable characters. Feel free to follow my guide; I used the Wiki as a supplement once I was notified of it. Also, please note that I'm seeing reports the Lam bug was patched. I will be updating my notes to remove mention of that bug, but make sure YOU are playing the most up-to-date version of the game so you can recruit them. I'll clean it up a bit writing-wise so it's a little cleaner to reference, too. My advice: Follow a guide! There are missable recruits! (And I still don't know exactly who.)

Props to ixelyth for this link to the wiki:
https://eiyuden.wiki.gg/wiki/Recruitment_guide

Hobbess pointed out a gamespot article now that the game is officially released:
https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/eiyuden-chronicle-hundred-heroes-recruit-characters-guide/2900-5278/

Given there are resources significantly more complete than mine, I am going to abandon this guide. There's still a healthy chunk of recruiting I've done and it's 100% accurate (except for the two I mention at the bottom, which aren't missed "yet") so you can still read/reference this guide, but I myself will be using the Wiki from here on out.

Post-prelude we get Nowa, Garr, Lian, by default. Mio is "gone" for the time being. I *DO NOT* track "official" numbers regarding recruitment, my numbers are ONLY placeholders.

1. Iugo - While exploring Eltisweiss look on the map, to the right hand side. There is a small alleyway that goes to a tavern with only Iugo in it.
TIP: This guy is a powerhouse. You will be hard pressed to find a reason to replace him.

2. Sabine - Breaking this up into 3 parts in case it matters:
A. I returned to the Watch Base (where you start in town) and there was a character named Sabine. There was dialogue but she didn't join and I didn't get to see the end of the dialogue because I got distracted. (Wamp wamp.)
B. I still could not recruit her, but she was back at the starting building in the starting city with additional information. Unsure if this is pertinent to recruitment or not but I did all the exploring I could (minus the ridge, minus getting the three boars mentioned above) before heading back to see this exchange between Sabine and Garr.
After this exchange, I had a scene with Ymir (in the same room). I'm not sure if I've accidentally sequence broken because I haven't gone to the ridge yet; I will be completing that before whatever Ymir wants me to do. TIP: I used Sabine as my in-between, she was a great filler character. I love her attitude, but not worth keeping around long-term.

3. Kuroto - Altverden Village (West of the starting city); wants you to hunt 3 wild boards at the Redthroat Ridge.

4. Francesca - Altverden Village (West of the starting city) - If you need a healer, she's easy to get.
TIP: Folks seem to love her or hate her. I wasn't a fan with her low HP but she is "malleable" so you can give her some health-boosting trinkets and she'll be fine, but I'm very offense-oriented so I passed up on her in favor of others.

5. Yusuke - Fort north of the starting city. I don't know if it matters, but I chose the "Desperado" answer.
TIP: Possibly the best fighter in the game, this guy wrecks. I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't want him on your team.

6. Huang - Recruitable but not until later. If you find him now, he gives you a fishing pole! Go through the Fort north of the starting city and you'll come out on the other side in the "prelude" starting area. Go to the town you were first at when you began the game and he's on the bottom left hand side of the map. Yay, fishing!

7. Mellore - You bump into her in the middle of Eltisweiss. Chase her over to Redthroat Ridge. (Don't forget to kill 3 boar for Kuroto!)

NOTE: I missed Yume, but you can recruit Yume after you have recruited Mellore. I'll add notes for Yume below as I'm going in order of when I recruited any particular character and not necessarily as "early" as you can recruit them. I missed this one - thank you shiromoon!

8/9/10 Kogen "and his band" - You can recruit them later, during their scene I chose "....." and Kogen and his band are answering for their crimes. I'm not sure if they still join if you choose 'So be it', that implies death. NOTE: Thanks to Fullmetal who linked a youtube video indicating that there is no actual choice difference in choice.

11. Gigina - When first entering Arenside, on the left. I don't know if I missed them the first visit I made or if they show up at a certain point. I have just finished the Abandoned Mine and am supposed to go to the Northwest Pass to head back to Nowa's village, and I ran around to the other towns again first. Looks like Gigina wants you to be a certain level before they'll join - I was level 13. The wiki said level 9.

2C. Sabine - Not sure if it's permanent, but at this point she's joined my party as part of the main story quest. Mio has also returned at this point.

The following join your team immediately after a major story advancement after the first army battle.

13. Ymir - Story advancement
14. Sumire - Story advancement
15. Cassandra - Story advancement
16. Kogen - Story advancement
17. Yuthus - Story advancement - TIP: when I couldn't use Sabine I used this guy. Defensive powerhouse at this point in the game.
18. Zabi - Story advancement
19. Gocteau - Story advancement
20. Iris - Story advancement
21. Caine - Story advancement

22. Martha - You can recruit Nowa's Aunt as soon as you can explore your "new home". She's in the right part of the map.

23. Kerrin - Dappled Forest near The Castle. She wants 20 lumber to join.

24. Wyler - Bounty Hill east of The Castle. He's looking for his sister Marin and will join. (See next entry.)

25. Marin - Completing the "quest" with Wyler at Bounty Hill and will join. You get a 2-for-1 brother/sister combo with these two.
TIP: I love Marin as a Support, she helped me gather a ton of resources early/mid game (before "automatic" resource gathering is an option.)

From here, I went back through the mine (because I realized I missed at least one recruitable character). You can access the mine from a well in the castle - look for the graveyard. From the save point, you should be able to utilize a shortcut to the bottom-right. Additionally, there is a SHORTCUT! When entering the Mines from Castle HQ, at the save point, go "down/right". The walkway there leads to a shortcut back to the midpoint of the mine. Useful for later, but don't forget to pick up some mine characters later.

26. Galdorf - At the entrance of the mines (not the castle side, the world map side). He's standing right in the entrance next to the save point. He wants "palenight mail"; I found it (a sparkly location on the ground) right next to Ormond. (See #33 below.)

27. Falward - Back in Altverden village, he's in the building in the top left. He wants 15 healing herbs.
TIP: Falward and Francesca have the best healing combo in the game *at the time of this writing*. Naturally, folks will discover other hero combos. Personally, I dont mind using items and I kept up with my bruiser/fighter oriented team, but if you like either of these characters and dont mind boosting Francesca's HP a bit with an HP accessory, they're worth consideration. (For me, it didn't make sense to save/spend 3 SP for healing purposes. Party-heal items do the trick fine and I don't need to rely on SP, but some strongly prefer the Falward/Francesca combo. Respect either way!)

28. Yume - Back in Werne, you have to go to the western path (towards Nowa's village) or Redthroat Ridge (to the East). For me, she was at Redthroat Ridge - I haven't read any reports of her being at the other location.

29. Frida - Also in Werne, to the left of Yume's grandmother. She joined when I talked to her. She sells equipment!

30. Crash - Back in Eltisweiss, Crash and Reid are playing Beigoma. Bottom left part of the map. I haven't recruited Crash as of this writing, but after the scene unfolds, he disappears and Reid heads off to Dr. Corque. (Not entirely sure he can be recruited.)
UPDATE: Crash cannot be recruited, but he plays an important story-optional part. If you like Beigoma, you'll enjoy this. If you don't like Beigoma but you're a completionist like myself, you're going to hate this. I'll leave it at that and wish you the best either way!

31. Reid - Back in Eltisweiss, Crash and Reid are playing Beigoma. Bottom left part of the map. I haven't recruited Crash as of this writing, but after the scene unfolds, he disappears and Reid heads off to Dr. Corque. (Not entirely sure he can be recruited.)
UPDATE: You can recruit him later.
BEIGOMA TIP: You start with a "starter" and two practice beigoma. *Do Not Waste Your Time*. You can fight to get the hang of it, but it's a very simple minigame with a LOT of opportunities to "hone" your skills. I strongly advise putting this entire series off until much later in the game when you can follow a Beigoma guide, and maybe pick it up from there. Hint: There are two 3* Beigoma in the game, which you can get relatively early, that will carry you through 75% of your Beigoma wins. I won't say what, but Google is your friend.

32. Hiro - In the abandoned mines, remember the merchant on the 2nd map? You can recruit him now!
TIP: He's going to keep selling items and I encourage you to abuse the HECK out of him. Those group heals are priceless!!!

33. Ormond - In the abandoned mines. Originally I WAY overcomplicated his location. Easy way to find him: From the castle well, go down to the save point. Look bottom-right. You'll see some boards - that's actually a shortcut back to the start of the mine. Don't forget Hiro! You'll miss him if you ONLY take the shortcuts back and forth.

34. Gieran - The Greatwood, East. He's roughly in the middle of the map and wants a "Rune of Conservation". The implication is that this rune drops from monsters. Since I haven't gotten a single item drop from a monster in this entire game so far (except for the occasional healing herb) I am going to pass on this guy and just note it here. If I get lucky, I'll update this note. Recruits locked behind luck walls are always frustrating to me. EDIT: There's a HARD boss fight (if you have plenty of healing items it's not that bad) and the rune dropped for me after the fight.
TIP: There's gear that drops later which makes monster drops happen more often. It really helps when you're trying to farm rarer items. Unlikely to be useful for recruiting Gieran, but something for you to keep in mind as you're weighing whether you want to farm "now" or "later" for other recruits. Just make sure they're not missable first!

35. Kallathor - Story advancement. Technically this character joined a bit ago, it's unavoidable - I just forgot to include him.

36. Marisa - Whether permanent or temporary, she joins your party at the tree village. (Looks temporary at this point in time.) UPDATE: She joins later on a permanent basis.

37. Garoo - I remember this fella! Whether permanent or temporary, he joins your party at the tree village. (Looks temporary at this point in time.) UPDATE: He joins later on a permanent basis.

38. Leon - After the tree village we're back at the castle. I upgraded my castle to Level 2 (badass!) and Leon is in a fetal position at the Western exit. Interesting character, but I never used him.

39. Chron - After I got Leon, I went to the Southern exit to pick up Chron.
TIP: This tip serves no purpose other than to say this dude is odd and his gaze make me very uncomfortable. I guess that's a tip?

------------------------------------------------
READ THIS: I was a little foolish and completely missed Glen back in Arenside - which is the very first village you start the game in. If you don't want to repeat my mistake, jump ahead to 43 and grab him now before you get too far ahead :-) Uh....and also apparently, 44 too, Pieter in Werne also awaits! If you have 250 MP on a character, read below Pieter's entry for a special bonus opportunity for early recruitment! You get a character who can teleport you around later, but I don't know if any of these characters are missable so...better safe than sorry? 😬
------------------------------------------------

40. Squash - I am not a fan of having to "luck farm" items. In the tree village, Squash is in the back near one of the shops. He wants a sparklestone which drops from a phantombird. The bird, AFAIK, only spawns in the Dappled Forest, in the "midpoint" of the forest. I will report back how long it takes me to actually get this to drop.
NOTE: I don't know if we have to talk to Squash before starting to farm it or if we can just farm it, but I spent some time here in my playthrough earlier and it didn't drop. (I'll be omitting that time from "this" farming attempt, but it was about 15 minutes previously.)
Update: Well, I don't know if I got lucky or what, but the sparklestone dropped for me in about 5 minutes of farming. The wiki says it's got a 5% drop rate off the phantombirds as well as Rotor Wyvern but I'm wondering if that's a typo? Mine fell off a group of 3 phantombirds. It's unclear if it's a 5% drop chance per enemy or 5% drop chance per battle/group. Either way, I hope you have as much luck as I did when it comes to farming this!
Remember: I encourage you to talk to Squash first BEFORE you dump time into trying to get it. You can do what you want, but I'd rather err on the side of caution.
Oh yeah, and uh, if you read the description it suggests you can sell it. I suggest you DON'T! :'-)
TIP: Don't forget the part I mentioned about items later in the game that boost drop rates from enemies. Also, don't forget the part I mentioned where I'm not sure who is missable! You may not want to wait.

41. Mariette - Twinhorne East. Mariette is found sort of bottom-center of this map, facing the water. She wants you to get her good luck charm from the Greatwood, and mentions a rabbit archwitch. There's only one area that I know of where those spawn - I will update this once I've found it. (Groan....)
Update: This didn't take me long to find, but I have a theory that "gimmick" chests are in pre-planned areas. (NOTE: I actually confirmed this, or it was one heck of a coincidence.) When you go back into the Greatwood you will be on the "Greatwood - South" map. Head to the save point on the southern part of the map. From here, head left through the weird mushrooms over to the...plant creature. (We all know what it reminds us of. We won't discuss that, as hilarious as it is.) I just ran in that little area for a minute and the first battle I encountered were 3 Rabbit Hero's and 2 Rabbit Archwitches with a treasure chest. Pop open the chest and the reward is yours!

42. Pastole - Twinhorne East, found next to the Tool shop (general vicinity of Mariette).
TRIGGER WARNING: This man is very flamboyantly gay and his recruitment made me very uncomfortable. I am a very open LGBTQ+ ally and this dialogue made me feel like Pastole was overly sexualized - aggressively so. There is a line between funny and sexual predator and the way he talks is just not acceptable to me. I suspect most people won't have an issue with this character but if you think you might just be ready to spam that conversation button until he joins and goes away. Afterthought: He opens a "hunting" outpost at your base and makes a lot of hunting-reference jokes. Adding on the extra ick this guy is like a predator - and the wrong kind at that. I'm not saying he's a bad man, but I'm also never leaving my kids alone with him either.

43. Glen - Arenside, the first village we began the game in. My walk of shame! I should have gotten him a few numbers ago but...oops! Guess it's just going to be me and my party sing-songing along back. Makin' my way downtown, walkin' fast, faces pass, and I'm homebound~! (But not really homebound...) Beat Glen at a card game and he'll join you. I'm also not sorry if you sang that in your head. (I'm old, leave me alone and get off my lawn.)

44. Pieter - Werne, top left corner, tending to some veggies. Second half of my walk of shame - can't believe I missed him. He'll join you, just talk to him. I chose, "I feel the same".

SPECIAL NOTE: You can recruit a character in the mountain area (Mountain Path Homeward) named Maureus. The wiki puts him in a section further down, but it looks like you need 250 MP to recruit him. I don't use mages, so I'm nowhere near that requirement yet, but putting him here now as a note in case YOU want to pick him up early! Besides...this is my walk of shame, remember....if you're walking with me, now's as good a time as any to grab him! Although I didn't have enough MP....

------------------------------------------------
Back to our regularly scheduled program!
------------------------------------------------

45. Kurtz - Hishahn. He's right by where you upgrade your weapons. He wants a recipe that you obtain from the treefolk, but you cant get the recipe until you have the quest for it. (..............Sigh.) Easy completion, and possibly a good time to farm up some baqua.

6. Huang - Hishahn. "Don't you mean 46, not 6?" - Nope, Huang is #6 from earlier! He wants a wheel-eye bream. This is a randomized PITA and I suggest you SAVE before attempting it. To the east, on the world map, is a cave - that's the Seaside Cavern. I made the mistake of thinking this was in there so I explored it and got a bunch of goodies - but you don't have to go there yet! (NOTE: There is an unmarked fishing spot in there that you CAN, apparently, get the fish at. I did not do this, and it's easy to miss.) Anyway, our destination is southwest of the cave itself but there is no pier. It's not marked at all. (Save in the cave entrance FIRST!) To find the fishing spot, stand in front of the cave entrance (on the world map) so you are facing the cave. Slightly off to the right, you will see two giant boulders. The unmarked spot is on the other side of those boulders, right at the waterline. It's entirely random if you get the fish or not, I suggest extra attention so none escape but you may need to save scum. (Yeah, I save scum sometimes. What, you think you're better'n me?) Regardless of your methods, after securing the prize, return to Huang.

46. Perrielle - Story advancement.
TIP: Possibly one of my favorite characters in the game. Not say for combat or anything, just genuinely enjoy her character, and I hope you do too!

47. Janquis - Story advancement.

48. Carrie - Hishahn. *REQUIRED* for story advancement! You need to cross a series of bridges - no pattern that I can tell. You'll bump into her 3 different times then she'll join you. I doubt it matters, but I was agreeable with her in all 3 examples. Fast travel unlocked! Huzzah!!! (If you're having trouble finding her, just run all around town, repeatedly, crossing all bridges you see.) Honestly this makes recruiting SO MUCH easier.

49. Riufan - Hishahn. You'll find him drinking by a waterwheel in the very back of town ("top" of the map). Beat him and he'll join you!

50. Nell - Hishahn. What the actual F??? Uh...just look for a literal bag that is in the top left corner of the map, behind a merchant stall. (There is no merchant around.) This is...weird....but welcome!

This next part is IMPORTANT and I will be grouping these recruits together for convenience.
*Make sure Mio is in your party, go talk to Riufan at the Inn at your Castle HQ, and then put him in your party as well.*

We did 52/53/54 previously, and came BACK to 51, due to the Lam bug. That bug has been patched, so notes regarding it are no longer required.

51. Faye - Castle HQ. I left the main building and hugged the left wall, going "up and over" the merchant building. This prompted the scene to unfold. In order to recruit her, there are steps to take - which involve recruiting characters in Daphan, including B'baba (#54). Go do 52/53/54 now and then come back. Done? Okay, now head back to inside your HQ on the first floor, then go right. B'baba has set up shop there. B'baba points us to Yusuke, who is on the very top floor. After the scene, back to B'baba. This time, we're headed to Francesca - same floor, just go all the way to the left into the Med ward. After the scene, back to B'baba AGAIN. Now, we need to go find Yume! 2nd floor, front and center. Bam, done!....That was annoying.
TIP: I hate Faye. Her favorite food is basically anything tasty. I gave that brat mint ice cream and she hated it. Sorry, this isn't much of a tip.

52. Lam - Daphan. UPDATE: After recent patch, no longer bugged! Make sure Riufan is with you AFTER talking to him at Castle HQ Inn. Bring him to Daphan village, speak with Lam. There will be a scene, and you need to go speak to her again. Lam will join you!

53. Hakugin - Daphan. With Mio in your party, find Hakugin in the bottom right part of town. Easy recruit!
TIP: I have seen folks report that they really enjoy Hakugin. I never tried her but I like the concept.

54. B'baba - Daphan. Top left corner is where you will find B'baba to recruit, so you can continue Faye's recruitment quest!

55. Code L - Daphan. In the lens shop, he wants a Rune of Current - I think that's what its called? It drops from the boss fight in Old Hishahn. Doesn't look like he keeps it, he just wants to marvel at it.

56. Melridge - Story advancement
57. Barnard - Story advancement
58. Seign - Story advancement
59. Pohl - Story advancement
60. Valentin - Story advancement
61. Hildi - Story advancement

OH-KAY WHAT!?!? Major spoiler here, I won't ruin it - but I kind of have to? Erm...let's continue with Nowa's party, and leave it at that. This was such a wonderful surprise!
UPDATE: Still won't ruin it but I was a bit disappointed with how short this ended up being :-(

62. Paquia - Arenside, need to give 5 regular eggs. These are eggs that drop off monsters - you can pretty easily farm them, if needed, by fighting the egg monsters outside Castle HQ. (Your mileage may vary....)
TIP: Some of the weirdest racing in my life, but it's an interesting minigame!

63. Mandie - Arenside, joins with Paquia
TIP: He gets annoying, fast....if you're going to do much racing, I suggest muting with extreme prejudice.....not all of my tips have to be useful, ok?

64. Douglas - Eltisweiss, at the forge. He wants you to bring him 10 chunks of iron ore. This could be a pain...or it could be easy. Unfortunately, once we go back to Castle HQ, they automatically take any and all resources. I'm not sure if there's a way to go "Hey, give that back!" - but I don't think so, which means we need all 10 iron ore and AVOID going to Castle HQ. Thankfully, the mines just below Castle HQ should have all the ore we need....even if it'll take some time to get it. Unfortunately there's nothing to do but just run around the mines and grab the ore. What I did was, from the save point in the mines from under Castle HQ, I went to the left and grabbed the ore there and then I went back to the save point and went down/right and grabbed the ore there. Looks like it's random 2-3 ore each time; that means best case scenario you only have to do this twice, worst case scenario you have to do it 3 times. Remember: DON'T go to Castle HQ, just teleport out with a rune item or run back to the mines entrance so you can teleport back to Eltisweiss!
TIP: You can make this easier by bringing Marin!

65. Isha - Eltisweiss, bottom right fountain. Fetch quest time >_> I found the cat in the bottom left part of the map. Return to Isha for another quest, this time a cockatrice egg. I went to the western side of the mountain pass (to Nowa's home) and found the cockatrice near the save point. You have to open the treasure chest for the egg! Dont just defeat the cockatrice - this took me a while to find, and I dont know if I just got lucky or not. FInally, we have to deliver a package to Arenside. Head to the Arenside item shop and talk to the shopkeeper to wrap this one up. (Package...wrap....get it? Yeah? No? Okay, that's fine - I'm not sorry.) Don't forget to return to Eltisweiss to finish recruiting Isha! You can tell her where to stuff her stamp card, too.

66. Milana - Castle HQ. Make sure you have the upgraded Rune shop and head to your 2nd floor of the merchant building. I dig Milana's vibe! But sadly, magic users aren't useful (yet?). But she's my kinda crazy! Just like Francesca.....

67. Aire - Hishahn. Bottom left part of the map, or "forefront" area, left hand side. You MUST have at least 135 base speed, which is reached at level 36+. (I had 136 speed at 36.)

While we're here, make sure you talk to Jorhan to start a quest - he's located over near the appraiser. If Perrielle is with you, there's additional dialogue, but it's not required. We'll cover his official recruitment later, just getting the quest rolling for now!

68. Fume - Dappled Forest. I meant to pick him up a bit earlier but forgot, I hadn't built my Mission Guild yet. (For those wondering where to get some materials, Dappled Forest - middle section - as well as Bounty Hill - middle section - has what you want.) Currently I'm looking for the Excellent Lacquer so I can upgrade my Castle HQ to level 3. Anyway, I now have the requirements for Fume (Mission Guild and Castle HQ Level 2) so let's pick him up! He's in the Dappled Forest, middle section, near the THIRD guard. (Guard 1 is entry, Guard 2 is middle point start, Guard 3 is middle point end, where the save point is.)

Wrapping up my guide:

At this point you might be thinking, "There's some recruits that he's missing that are on the wiki, what gives?". If you're THAT dedicated, you can do *whatever it takes* to get these recruits in the order that they are immediately unlocked in. That....isn't me. I try to work smarter, not harder - but just like you, I'm playing this for the first time, filling it out and using the Wiki as a good source material.
Those characters right now are: Jorhan, Shixeen and Celia; technically Maureus as well - we have some items to farm for a few recruits in the upcoming area. Maureus is a special PITA because I need 250 base mana to recruit him and I'm not running a mage in my party.

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors against Dux Aldric!

FINAL NOTE: I see a lot of discussion about "best party". Really it's the one you have fun with, but my front line was Iugo/(Placeholder, I bounced between Sabine and Yuthus. Ultimately I recruited Reyna and put effort into getting her stronger. I was not disappointed!)/Yusuke. My back line was Lian (super fast, decent stun), Garr (always reliable even if he's slower than I wanted, but if I had to replace 2 story characters, I'd replace Sabine/front and Garr/back), and Nowa. My dream team is definitely Iugo/Reyna/Yusuke/Lian/Garr/Nowa, although I am sure there are better out there. For runes, I went pure offense - no joke. Strength runes (5%, then 10%, then I farmed the 15% runes) for all of them. If I could put a strength rune there, I did, EXCEPT I gave Iugo an Earth rune to smash armor with. Between him and Nowa, boss armor got chewed up in 1-2 rounds.

Theres a fishing point by the cliffs near the seaside cave, You can fish there for what you need for the fisherman.

"Lam", she is one of the recruit-able character. If we talking to her first without starting the requirement to recruit her. We will not able to recruit her.
For the Fisherman Huang, you need to progress the story first

Hopefully we have gryphon, dragon or squirrel like the old days

I found Mareuse (sp? I'm away from the game at the moment) along the path back to Nowa's home village. This was after a first visit to the tree people.

Left side of the map on the wide stretch that goes off to the side. He wants me to bring someone who has a lot of MP. I had someone with 219 with me, but that was not enough.

You can also recruit Yume very early on, as early as before the mines.

What you need to do is have recruited mellore already. Then when you go to werne village, her grandma will be directly to the left. Talking to the grandma will have her say how Yume is missing. You then need to proceed to the Ridge where you found mellore, and Yume will be there.

She will then join your party.

There's a relatively spoiler-free guide on recruiting the characters which can be found at https://eiyuden.wiki.gg/wiki/Recruitment_guide.
