Going around in this circle again? I am curious why it would be a reference to clerks 2 when it was used there to refer to someone being hideous and unappealing, nothing to do with strength or wit.

I think rub-a-dub-dub, along with the context of the rest of the line, was just a shot at translating the Japanese onomatopoeia from the original text.

To be clear, I do still think they should've gone with a different line. Not arguing it's a good translation, just that it's not a politically charged one.

I mean yeah, it clearly was. I was just saying with sarcasm (hard to detect ont he Internet sometimes) it's doubtful that 'Chud' was a Clerks 2 ref any more than rub-a-dub was a R&M ref.

Eh, fair point there I suppose. Granted, the Clerks 2 usage offers evidence of usage in the definition that fits the context of the scene that predates all this culture war nonsense. But yeah, you're right, it's probably not actually a reference.

I mean this whole thing is a silly course of argument, since any kind of pop culture reference is bad translation in this context, and I think it's pretty likely that "chud" wasn't a Clerks 2 reference to begin with. However, it's a lot closer than the latter because the R&M line is "wubba-lubba-dub-dub", which is only rhythmically similar.
