i dont think i have Hakugin, Falward, Isha, Lam
Once you get Great Wood, don't push into the Treefolk village immediately after beating the ancient seed so you can double back and get Gieren. He is a very chunky spellcaster with a 20% discount on all spells. He can easily replace both Falward and Francesca in the buffs and healing department, so that opens up one more slot for you to play with. Personally I'd go with either Garr, Lian, Zabi or Mellore.
yusuke is probably one of the "most op" for me so far too.
zabi-chan hasnt left my team at all since his introduction tho.
If you don't like them, you can always kick them to Attendant status.
characters worth using (in my opinion):
Reyna: (S) Tank with high HP/DEF/RES, can cover the same row and counterattack.
Falward: (L) Spellcaster, good stat spread, OP Hero Combo with Francesca.
Francesca: (L) Spellcaster, squishy early game, gets much better lategame. (hp ring and hp helmet are recommended) with Falward can do a full teamheal + attackbuff (3sp)
Milana : (L) Spellcaster, best stats I've seen so far for a caster. 3 magic rune-slots and 1 passive rune-slot, 2SP attack that targets all enemies.
Garr: (M) DD. Kit is nothing special but you get him from the beginning and he stays good throughout most of the game
Kogen (M) DD, Front row Tank stats with M range, his rune lets him attack a row for 4SP
High HP/ATK/DEF ok MP/RES, can work as a buffer for the team as buffs don't need Magic stat.
Iugo: (S) Damage/Tank a bit squishy early but get's good around level 25ish and is great till the end.
Yusuke: (S) Tank/DD, Charge Up is a really good skill. it halfs your damage while charging and increases your next attack by 3times. it can also be charged twice in a row for 5times damage.
Galdorf (S) Tank/DD, has Charge Up, same as Yusuke. BUT has better HP/ATK/DEF, has low RES so might struggle a bit more against caster.
Prunella (L) DD Has high MP and good HP/ATK/DEF/RES making her the best ranged dd so far (haven't unlocked all characters yet) other ranged DD fall off earlier
Other than these ones are obviously Nowa and Seign.
I use Nowa, Reyna, Seign, Francesca, Fallward and last is fill, but most of the time either Milana or Prunella
Yuferius Reyna Iugo Garr Sabine Nowa Lian Milana Mellore Isha Hakugin Lam
Some will get stronger since lv 40+, so I suggest to use them now and invest for late game. While some like Yusuke or Falward gonna status drop since lv 40+. You can keep them for a while but don't rely on them much.
In this game, there is no need to preventively leveling characters who you don't need to use them now.
You can even bring a level 10 character with you in late-game fighting level 50+ enemies, and he/she will catch up very fast. Just use 1~2 of you leading main characters to bomb the enemies with spell of skill, and the newbie character will catch up in 3~10 battles.
46 for the invasion where you split 3 parties to defeat undead.
53 for end game.
Unless you exceed that certain level threshold, game will not consider character as underlevelled and will not increase their level for you not to get stuck by route split.
Only characters that leave/join during the route split will not have level scaling. But since there are more than 2 route split and the earlier ones I grinded everyone and wasted my time to even notice.
