Suikoden - "The importance of diversity, acceptence & tackling racial prejudices"
The Suikoden games have the most diverse group of heroes in video game history. The 108 stars of destiny represent multiply races, genders, ages and cultures. Strong female characters feature throughout the games as leaders and great warriors. Different sexuality's are also alluded too throughout the games and a significant amount of Suikoden characters have genders that are not immediately apparent, with many gamers confusing genders.

There have been many review articles that cover these topics in great depth as a positive of the games as one of the messages of Suikoden is that all people no matter where you come from, no matter your race, gender or culture you should band together to fight against fascist racist regimes.

Issues with poor translation also plagued Suikoden and many JRPGS. Back then, gamers didn't review bomb games or rage about a couple lines poorly translated for western audiences because we could see the bigger picture and a few lines of text isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things when the rest of the game is excellent

If Suikoden 1 or 2 was released today, certain online communities would be raging about how woke the game is despite it pre-dating the term woke and despite it promoting the message of celebrating diversity and fighting intolerance. A cause most people are behind and what makes these games so great in the first place. If you think that's a problem, then Suikoden and games like it are not for you.

The villains in Suikoden are sometimes narcissistic racists trying to impose their world view on what they deem as lessor races through subjection and death.

I question these who claim to be Suikoden fans who think Eiyuden Chronicles is too woke due to a couple lines of text out of thousands, when Suikoden games themselves are far more woke by your own standards. Not that most normal people will care. A great game with a great story is beyond a few lines of text.

If you're review bombing this game over a translation, then you would have review bombed Suikoden ! & 2 also as they both pushed politics based diversity while suffering from poor western translations. I have zero respect for people bombing games because it's them pushing their own political agender. The very thing they claim to be against.

You wasted time typing that. No one complained about the game or its cast.

What I really hate about these translation wars for this game is I legitimately can't tell if there's actual issues with the translation, like completely rewriting character personalities or obscuring plot details, or if it's just people screeching because they feel personally attacked by "Chud" and are terrified of pronouns. Irritating.

Youtubers grifting for viewers created a drama out of nothing. They would do the same to every older Suikoden game if it was released today. That much is clear.

I thought you didn't want in on the 'Translation Wars.' In any case, you have plenty of threads with examples at your convenience.

There was a riot when P3R was released because it was "woke"

The reason for this was a pride pin showing up on the schoolbags of one of the students during a cinematic.... for a second.... The discourse was equally as bad as for this game... for something that showed up for 1 second and then is never heard, seen or dscussed ever again xD

I have the cheshire cat as a profile pic and I often call myself mad... I must be mad...because the "normal" world simply makes no sense to me anymore

What Suikoden villains are you referring to?

Suikoden 1:

Barbarossa's motivation was love for Windy. He's portrayed as a benevolent ruler that changed. During the ending sequence we learn that Barbarossa was immune to Windy's Black rune because of his Sovereign rune, it was a tragedy of a man willing to sacrifice everything for the woman he loved.

Suikoden 2:
The villain of the story is more complex. It's a war of ideas. You happen to encounter and slay Luca halfway through the game but is he really the true villain of the story?

Suikoden 3:
This entry is even more blurry villain wise. Luc's plan had its merits.

Yup i still remember the crying over pride flags simply existing in the spiderman games too. The simple act of having a flag exist in a game is enough to get the anti woke crowd to screech and complain. Their entire stance isnt about honestly caring about the quality of a game but crying about seeing minorities represented in any way. Its the same here except a flag they see a reference to a golems gender and a throw away line with the word chud in it. Thats enough to trigger them into being absolutely insufferable.

Suikoden IV and V too.

IV had the villain trying to get the Rune of Punishment back at all costs, everybody was expendable there.

V was one of the noble houses overthrowing the queen and trying to establish the MC's sister as a puppet.

Apparently there are some snow flakes really offended by one meaningless word. Aside from that there is nothing. They're making some big claims, but all those claims are so vague they effectively aren't saying anything and any time they attempt to make specific points those points end up being nonsense like the "sus" line

There have been like 2 or 3 lines that are somewhat sketchy and dozens upon dozens of lines that are literally the exact same meaning as the japanese line just reworded a bit. All of this in a game with THOUSANDS of lines of text all of which are translated perfectly fine. Its like digging through a 40lb bag of beans and crying that the whole thing is bad because 2 beans are shaped funny. Guess the whole bag is garbage.

I do agree this happens. Those Youtubers that just post about controversy every day are so tiring. And they just feed people looking for someone that agrees with their bias.

It all boils down to this. Do you agree with this? If yes, then you're fine. If no, then you're still fine to play this fun game, but you gotta accept it because they've already replied and said it was approved.
