Does the game feature any elements that tie directly to the Stars of Destiny? Perhaps an ancient tablet or some other artifact?

No, not from where I left off. You begin recruiting even before any destiny type symbolism ever occurs.

No, and due to copyright issues, cannot.

But you can see a lot of similarities of it with Suikoden.
Well, the 108 stars of destiny comes from the Water Margin originally, which is public domain.

So they could technically, but since there are more than 108 it's kinda pointless.

Also I highly recommend reading the water margin, it's great. (It's also been printed as 'outlaws of the marsh' and 'all men are brothers')
108 is a holy number for the chinese.

It's kinda funny how that seems to work. Like how "Bloodstained" didn't use Count Dracula as the villain despite the fact that Konami very much does NOT own the character of Count Dracula. It seems like whenever a "spiritual successor" is made it distances itself as far from the original as it possibly can, even in spots where the original took from public domain ideas to begin with and which the new one would totally be free to use as well.

Not complaining or anything, I just think it's funny.

Dracula original publication is 1897, and Stoker did not register any copyright, so nothing about it being a rights issue. Probably a naming choice as its public domain, people could confuse it for other works with Dracula in it

108 stars of destiny is not a unique concept, the original Water Margin was written several hundred years ago. Suikoden is the Japanese writing of Chinese title, the full name has 幻想 (Genso) added in front

When words as "Suikoden" or the "108 Stars of Destiny" are used in this forum, it usually assumed to be referring to those in "Genso Suikoden (Game)".

And NO, if you mean the "Original" Suikoden, it is not a Japanese writing of Chinese title, it is the Full title of that original Chinese novel, and in English writing / phono translation.

No, it's not.

It also often related to something unholy.

It's just something about a dozen or 9's.

It's not necessary on the good side or bad side. Just like people often make list of "The Top 10 / 100 xxxxxx", or "The Worst 10 / 100 xxxxxx". Sometime they make that in the multiples of 36, and 108 is one of them.

And, it's easy to make a square matrix of 36 (6x6, or 9x4 on the rim). but difficult to make that from 10 (a matric of 2x5 is not a square; neither a 2-3-2-3 rim layout).

No, 108 actually bears significance as a number in Chinese culture, I watch enough martial art movies to know that.

Though I didn't know this is due to influence of Buddhism.

It may be significant or used sometimes (actually quite rare now, I would say), but not necessary a "Holy" number.

In Buddhism, it's also used like 108 troubles / desires / worries.

Oh OK then, I usually associate it as holy, I can't think of an example of it being unholy doe.

49 is another significant number, but because it's so associated with funeral, it's not used much.
