the problem with funny memes in localization:
if i want to play this game in 5 - 10 years, all the memes will be outdated, and It'll be really akward and unimerssive to read "sus" or "chud" in the game

Manipulate me? Well I'd say it was a feeble and ineffective attempt. I'm positive I haven't disparaged or sabotaged any mod projects.

I certainly have questions I feel aren't being answered. I've been trying to ask for recent English released JRPGs without these kinds of dialogue alterations, to no avail.

Oh man, that I can do.

Sea of Stars is a Canadian game and the jokes are in-universe and mostly avoids meme dialogue.

Wandering Sword is from a Chinese dev, and takes itself a good bit more seriously.

Chained Echoes's developer is German. Again a bit more serious tone.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1229240/Chained_Echoes/

These folks are British and the game is does have a bit of tongue-in-cheeky dialogue.

Then there's the Trails Games, Persona games, Kingdom Hearts, SMTV was just put out. Granblue has been getting positive attention. It's a great time to love JRPGs. There's no reason to be tied down to ECHH's mediocrity.

Sea of Star is only on my wishlist because they removed and distanced themselves from someone who committed charity fraud.

Having played both Sea of Stars and Chained Echoes, I can whole-heartedly recommend them both. They're both genuinely fantastic.
The music in Sea of Stars is soooo good. That might have been the actual reason I saw the game to an ending when I have a bloated backlog. Just to hear the battle music remixes for new dungeons and the boss battle tunes that had me pumped like I haven't felt often since FF7 melted my face with MIDI guitars.

Thank you. I suppose those sorts of games count.

Even if I didn't consider it, you're right the question was phrased to provide me a hefty variety of options. (I didn't insist on major publishers, and didn't say the translations had to be from Japanese)

Sea of Stars literally has a character named Yolande whose only purpose is to rant about video game cliches like she's desperate to absorb the essence of Deadpool. There's a pirate named "Captain Klee`shae". And even outside of the very worst offenders the game's dialogue is just kind of boring and annoying in general. The dialogue portraits don't even match the personalities of the characters.

The gameplay and graphics are alright, but if you want good writing, holy sh*t, avoid that one like the plague.

I don't know that I'd agree with that. I played through Sea of Stars and I actually thought it was brillaint. Yolande's jokes were a little hit or miss, and a few of the 'twists' were pretty obvious, but a fair few of the others caught me entirely by surprise and, all and all, I thought it was very well written and incredibly entertaining.

Granted, subjectivity in art and all that jazz. I'm an ooooold school JRPG player who cut my chops on the likes of FF1-6 and Breath of Fire, so my sensibilities are gonna be different from more modern players who grew up with the PS1/2/3 era and what not.

I didn't actually finish Sea of Stars, to be honest. Yolande and the ♥♥♥♥ Pirates hit me like a sack of bricks and what little interest I still had in the story spontaneously evaporated. Seriously, I put the controller down, walked away, and never went back.

Also my first JRPG was Final Fantasy 1 when it was new, so...

Now I would agree that the pirate crew (just the crew, not so much the captain) are probably the most weakly written part of the entire game. It felt like they were intended purely as comic relief and it just doesn't work all that well. Fortunately, while they are present pretty much throughout, they don't stay front and center for very long.

I'd encourage you to pick it back up and just push past that segment of the game. You're missin' out on a gem.
Melodia and the Resetera crew strike again

If you can't have a conversation with someone about the facts of what happened, just abuse the system so you don't have to deal with them again

Surprised you're taking your precious time out of updating Wikipedia to make Yasuke the Surpeme Samurai of Japan to come and deal with us plebs on this forum

Yasuke was one edit away from becoming a Ninja Turtle on Wikipedia

This may come as a huge surprise, but Steam mods don't just ban people cause people report them. They ban them because they violate ToS. In fact, they're usually very, VERY slow to respond to things simply because the justification for a ban has to be very cut and dry in order for a Steam mod to ban somebody, since Steam forums are typically up for the publisher or developer to moderate.

The two times I got temp-bans, I wasn't whinging about, "Oh, Tank strikes again! He can't argue against me, so he just reports me so he doesn't have to deal with me anymore!" I violated ToS those two times, and got temp bans for it. It doesn't matter if it only happened because someone reported me, I'm still the one that did it. It's called personal responsibility.

That's so 2 months ago.

I love this conclusion though because it rightfully points out that regardless of which side of the silly debate you're on it's the old adage that "any publicity is good publicity"

All’s well that ends well for Ubisoft, though, especially if this Yasuke talk convinces gamers to shell out for the Assassin's Creed Shadows Collector’s Edition, a collection of paywalled content, three days of “early access” before the general public and other samurai-themed tchotchkes — all available for the low, low price of $279.99 (about ¥44,000).
Once again I'm being randomly brought up....why? I hardly post here compared to pretty any one else in these debates.

I've also multiple times said how much I think Resetera is a horrible place but that's a different issue I suppose....

Honestly I'm not surprised. Their previous game also had some awful writing.

And for some reason a completely out of any context copy and paste of a Jordan Peterson rant.

Tank's just gone full culture warrior zealot. The brainrot runs deep.

You're either 100% on his side, or a "resetera troll" even if you have nothing to do with that site.
