Garr's pretty good too, but slow. He's very tanky and decent damage~ least likely to die.
I settled on Sabine then they took her away from me. Tried oni since she seems more a main character but she's doing no damage. So I'm going back to Yusuke, that or Iugo I guess idk?
Nowa and Lian together are also pretty useful because of their Hero combo attack that seems to have a high speed and good damage. It feels stronger than both of them attacking separately most of the time unless attacking weak enemies they could kill by themselves.
To maximize their damage:
1) Yusuke (Charge 2x + ATK buff = dead bosses)
2) Iugo (SP Conversion Power + 5 SP + Rune of Slash)
I also used Garr for about 80% of the game until you get better magic users (Momo, Isha) and the ultimate tank (Reyna). I'd suggest you keep Lian and Mio somewhat leveled up since they're used throughout the game in several fixed formations.
Fran is excellent, but her abysmal HP growth starts to hurt around mid-game. Oddly, her HP is above average for a mage around level 70+ and she was hitting harder than Garr for most of the time that I used her.
Mellore is a great hybrid character depending on whether you need someone with extra rune slots, magic attacks, back row, etc. That said, most character formations are viable, but these are the ones that stood out to me.
Without SP though she's pretty useless, not tanky enough to take hits for an S range and her attack stat is absolutely pitiful, kills me inside because I wanna use her so badly, but not when Iugo is better than her in so many ways!
she has the highest strengh of the game with iugo (they both have 498 nat strengh at lvl 99) and she has one of the highest speed (speed is the stat to dodge so she dodge almost everything)
It's of less use for her STR, since Mio has low HP/DEF, and can be out of line, laying down more often than others.
Yusuke and Iugo are top tier damage dealers all the way to the end game and they have deep mana pools that let them act as back up casters if need be.
Francesca is passable but her low hp and low speed let her down in really hard encounters, especially if you don't have Falward to carry her, but if he's there's a world beater in terms of heals and dps. That said Koruto is hands down the best clutch healer early since his insane speed means he can pop off that heal ahead of everyone else.
More or less my early party was Iugo, Yusuku, Falward, Francesca and Koruto until the end of Euchrisse.
But mid-game, around Imperisarc, I switched out the latter three for Isha, Milana and Geiren, the former two have powerful AOE skills and the latter has a 20% discount on all spells so he can singlehandedly provide enough healing for the whole team with Isha as backup. Nowa is also pretty fast at this point so he can outsource a lot of casting to Rune Shards (Dark 1 & 2, Earth 1 and Wind 2 are very cost effective).
That said keep an eye on Mellore and Mio, they start out weak but get very powerful late game.
