difficulty for first run through
since you can't change it im curious if people are finding hard mode too tedious later on in the game

You can change difficulty anytime you want.
Only thing you can't reactivate after deactivating are the extra challenges like no Baqua, no Stores etc.

I started with Hard mode, was kinda annoying in the prologue Quest/Dungeon as you take quite some damage and don't have really any chance to heal certain characters as they are literal two hit. After that the Hard difficulty feels much better balanced.

Hard mode has an area that's pretty hard early on. No HP recovery item use, no Baqua, and No Escape are all doable. Not having HP recovery item use changes battlefield planning and strategy in what I consider a rather fun way.

You care a lot more about runes, stats, armor etc.

This is correct. You can move out of Hard mode to Normal mode, but you can't move back into Hard mode after you make that decision.

Hard mode does get quite difficult later on.
Wiped on a boss twice and just managed to beat them with 1 guy standing with 7hp lol
He gained 5 levels from it XD
