Only thing you can't reactivate after deactivating are the extra challenges like no Baqua, no Stores etc.
I started with Hard mode, was kinda annoying in the prologue Quest/Dungeon as you take quite some damage and don't have really any chance to heal certain characters as they are literal two hit. After that the Hard difficulty feels much better balanced.
You can only change difficulty later if you select Hard mode, not Normal mode.
You care a lot more about runes, stats, armor etc.
Wiped on a boss twice and just managed to beat them with 1 guy standing with 7hp lol
He gained 5 levels from it XD
